Dorothy E. Purpura, age 71 of Shelby Township, died Saturday, July 9, 2011 at home. She was born on March 11, 1940 in Roseville, Michigan, the daughter of the late George and the late Laura (nee: Sherman) Zink. Like many Michiganders who acknowledge the close proximity we share to the mecca of gambling at our disposal, quite often, Dorothy's penchant for fun would include a trip to the casinos. It didn't really matter what gambling venue of the day she chose, for she loved it all. And when it came to a little gambling pleasure closer to home, there was always the treasured moments she shared with her daughter, Kim and granddaughter, Jackie in a rousing game of Bingo. She was also a huge movie buff, and nothing spelled "fun" more than the "brewski & banter" times she spent with her loving sisters. And as much as Dorothy cared for and enjoyed the precious family moments and memories that were made along life's way, she also coveted the special and lifelong friendship's she shared with Ben & Dorothy, Ron & Sue, and Bob & Gail. The relationships they shared meant the world to her, and the countless hours of fun and entertainment they enjoyed were cherished beyond words. But without question, the tenderest part of her heart and her greatest delight in life was found in the love she shared with her soulmate & groom, Sam. With him preceeding her in death, his absence left a chasm that was never easy to fill. But that chasm has now been gapped, and she's been gloriously reunited with the love of her life as they stroll together, again, into eternity. She was the beloved wife of the late Sam. Dear mother of Kim (Richard) Meldrum, John (Lori) Purpura, Michael Purpura, and Tony (Lynn) Purpura. Loving sister of George, Wayne, John, Loretta, Sharon, Cheryl, and Casey. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Visitation for Dorothy will be held on Tuesday, July 12th from 5-9pm, with a 7pm memorial service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. Officiating the service will be Fr. Roman Pasieczny. Please share memories of Dorothy at her guest book.
