Edith Ida Puzzuoli, age 94, of Sterling Heights, Michigan died on July 27, 2023. She was born on February 25, 1929, in Warren, daughter of the late Emilio and the late Millea (nee: Benequisto) Puzzuoli. Edith was raised in Warren and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947.
At the young age of 8 years old, Edith was taken in by her eldest brother Paul, who together with his wife Adeline, helped raise his little sister and other siblings to provide a loving home for her to grow and thrive. Paul and Adeline's home would remain Edith's as well for the next 56 years until their passing in 1986 and 1987, respectively. In 1989, Edith left her Warren home to relocate to nearby Sterling Heights ever since.
Edith worked for 14 1/2 years at Divco Truck Builders as a secretary. Divco was a brand name of delivery trucks built and marketed in the United States. Divco is an acronym which stands for Detroit Industrial Vehicles Company. Divco became known for its multi-stop delivery trucks, particularly in use as home delivery vehicles by dairy producers by Twin Pines Milk and Dairy. From 1926 until 1986, Divco produced trucks of various sizes and job descriptions. Later, Edith joined her sister Eleanor at the Van Dyke Public Schools working within the administration. Edith would later retire in 1987 after 25 1/2 years.
Though all of Edith's brothers preceded her in death, she was always quite proud of their service to our country during World War II. As soldiers in the U.S. Army, each of them served in the European Theater of Operations and gave to the war effort in their own patriotic way. Of her four brothers, Paul and Albert were fortunate to have escaped injury. Leonard, her second eldest brother, was wounded in battle and received the distinguished Purple Heat. Her youngest brother, Herman, was a paratrooper who unfortunately succumbed to his battle wounds and was buried overseas in the Netherlands American Cemtery in the village of Margraten, just outside of Maastricht.
In 1952, at the age of 23, Edith took up the wonderful pastime of ballroom dancing. It didn't take long for the pleasure and charm of dancing to make its way into her favorite things to do, and soon she found herself visiting the ballroom from 3-4 times a week. She could cut-a-rug with the best of them,... and did just that until she was compelled to hang up her dancing shoes well into the 80's.
Edith will also be remembered for her love of golfing and bowling as well. From heading out on the links in search of that elusive Hole-in-One to taming the lanes in the hopes of achieving that perfect 300 Game, Edith enjoyed her sporting pleasures,...especially when shared with her many fellow leaguer's and competitors.
Edith was the dearest sister of Eleanor Bates, she was preceded in death by siblings; Paul (Adeline) Puzzuoli, Leonard (Carmen) Puzzuoli, Albert (Ursula) Puzzuoli, Herman (Helen) Puzzuoli, and Concetta (Paul) Panetta. Edith was also a devoted aunt to many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Edith will be held on Sunday, July 30th from 3-9pm with a Rosary Service at 7pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common Rd. (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. She will lie In State on Monday from 10:30am until the time of her Funeral Mass at 11am at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 14115 E 14 Mile Rd, Sterling Heights, MI.
