Born in Detroit, Ellie was raised in Catholic schools, where she always remembered the kindness and compassion shown to her by the nuns and teachers as she grew up. Inspired by those experiences, she devoted her own life to caring for children as a preschool teacher at Macomb County Headstart, where she spent her entire career before retiring. Known by parents, students, and colleagues as an exceptionally kind, patient, and compassionate educator, Ellie made a lasting impact on her peers and the children she taught. Her dedication to teaching was even recognized internationally when she was chosen to be the subject of a documentary produced by an English film crew, which followed her through a typical day in her classroom.
For more than twenty years, Ellie and her husband, Robert, cherished every opportunity to escape to their cottage in Indian River. After her retirement, they spent even more time enjoying time “up north” before making it their permanent home four years ago. Together they loved jet skiing, boating, and embracing the peaceful lifestyle it provided.
Above all else, Ellie treasured her family and friends. She loved them and found her greatest happiness in spending time together, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
