

Eugene Tom Slobodian, age 89, died Sunday, June 16, 2019 at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens, Michigan. Eugene was born August 28, 1929 in Hamtamck, Michigan, son of the late Thomas Slobodian and the late Clara (nee: Kosinski) Slobodian.
Eugene was raised in Hamtramck where he attended Catholic High School and later joined the United States Marine Corps, serving at the end of World War II. Eugene served in the Marines from September 17, 1946, until receiving his honorable discharge August 9, 1948, having achieved the rank of Corporal.
Eugene returned home to Michigan where he reunited with the love of his life, Jacqueline Burczycki. The two continued their courtship until they sealed their mutual commitment of love through Holy Matrimony at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Catholic Church on April 14, 1951.
Eugene and his wife settled in St. Clair Shores to begin their life together and also raise a family. Eugene worked various jobs from tool and die maker within the automotive industry to eventually working in shipping and receiving. Eugene would work for over 25 years for the Wall Colmonoy Corporation where he retired as a supervisor.
Outside of work, Eugene was a family man who enjoyed tending to his tomato garden, golfing, and spending time at his White Lake cottage boating and fishing. Also, he and his wife were avid travelers, visiting many places within the United States and abroad including Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and many Caribbean islands.
Eugene was the beloved husband, for over 68 years, to Jacqueline, and was the dear father of Laura (Alwyn) Wunderlich and Rodney (Dawn) Slobodian. Additionally, he was the loving grandfather of Dena (Kevin) Churchill, Brandon (Tina) Wunderlich, Ryan Slobodian, Lindsay Slobodian, and great-grandfather of Shelby, Alyssa, and Jaelyn. Eugene was also survived by many dear family members and friends. Mr. Slobodian was pre-deceased by his siblings.
Visitation for Mr. Slobodian will be held Thursday, June 20th from 5-9 pm, with a 7 pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.
Mr. Slobodian will lie in state on Friday from 9:30 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Reverend Fr. Ronald DeHondt.
