Florence Eleanor Chmielewski, age 84 of Utica, died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Florence was born May 24, 1930 in Detroit to Joseph and Amelia Piechowski. On a glorious day in 1957, Florence's life was enhanced and blessed as she joined her beloved Joseph in marriage and began their journey as husband & wife,…and union that would find them enjoying the next 52 years together building a home, raising two beautiful daughters, and growing deeper in love with each passing day until his passing in 2009.Along with her proud membership with the "Ladies of the Assembly," Florence was also a devout parishioner, for many years, of St. Mark Catholic Church in Warren. She was strong in her faith and possessed the heart of a servant, and was the kind of person who would help in any way she could. Though she held the position of meat processor in work she did outside of the house, her greatest and most rewarding efforts were those that she poured into her precious family in making their house a home. And life became increasingly special when she donned the hat of "Grandma," a title that would envelope the lives of five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. They were truly the light of her life and she coveted every moment they shared together. When it came to their many sporting events, Grandma was there and was always supportive of their efforts. When Florence found a little time to herself, you'd often find her curled up with a good book. She loved to read and exercise her mind through the printed form of entertainment. When it came to being entertained by the tube, some of her favorite TV shows were General Hospital, NCIS, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. From her more "sporty" side came her love for the game of horseshoes. She could sling those shoes with the best of them and enjoyed the game immensely.Florence absolutely loved the gathering of the family, especially when it meant a big party was in the works. She had her own special flair for entertaining, and it gave her the opportunity to create something tasty from her collection of recipes in the "Baked Goods" department. When it came to baking, Florence could work some incredible magic in the kitchen, and always something that would make your mouth water and ask for more. As they say, "nothing makes for a happier smile than a satisfied tummy,"…and something from Florence's oven always did the trick. Many will also remember how she loved her cheap glass of wine,…which, quite often, meant a Port from Meijer's. And her second favorite treat…some of Michigan's own "Better Made" potato chips. Ah yes, Chips & Wine,…the perfect pair!A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Florence leaves behind a legacy of love that will be honored and revered with each thought and remembrance that brings her close again. She spent her life filling it with as many heartfelt memories as she could,…always hoping that they were memories to be shared. She touched many lives along the way, hearts and souls who were blessed to know this wonderful lady. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Florence was the beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Dear mother of Pamela (Donald) Muglia and Sandy (Ed) Johnson. Sister of the late Helen (the late William) Grzelak. Loving grandmother of Michael (Heidi) Muglia, Christina (Todd Busick) Muglia, Matthew Muglia, Kate Johnson, Tyler Johnson, and great-grandmother of Ari and Giada Muglia. Visitation for Florence will take place on Friday, September 5th from 3-9 pm, with a 7pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Please share memories of Florence at her memory book.
