Francesco (“Frank”) Joseph Deon passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the age of 78. Frank was born on March 19, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan to Angelo and Antoinette Deon. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Diane, his beloved sons, Michael (Mary) Deon and Steven (Stacy) Deon, and his cherished grandchildren, Vincent, Mia, Emerson, Allison, and Lauren. He is also survived by his brother, Marco Deon, and sister, Arlene VanNest, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The son of Italian immigrants, Frank attended Cass Technical High School and then entered the Coast Guard at the age of 18 where he proudly served for four years. Frank joined the Michigan State Police in 1966 where he served with honor for 34 years. During his time with the Michigan State Police, Frank rose to the rank of Detective First Lieutenant.

In 1970, he married his beloved wife, Diane, and later delighted in becoming a father to Michael and Steven. While working midnights, Frank completed his education receiving a Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State University and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Detroit. He instilled the importance of education and love for family in his children.

He loved watching his boys play sports and enjoyed coaching them, albeit from the sidelines. Frank was also a regular fixture at the Warren Community Pool and Schoolcraft College where he enjoyed swimming on a daily basis. Some of Frank’s happiest moments were spent on the golf course with his sons and his grandson. He enjoyed the fact that all of his grandchildren participated in sports and loved going to their games. He was at his most optimistic when betting on sports, although his track record earned him the nickname “Mush.” He was quick with a hearty laugh and treasured spending time with his adored grandchildren. Frank was loved deeply by his family and will be profoundly missed.

Frank always welcomed us and made us feel part of the Deon Family. He was a great father, grandpa, husband and friend. The thought of his absence from family gatherings is absolutely heartbreaking. Sending so much love to the family during this difficult time.

To the Deon Family,

I had the extreme pleasure to know and work with Frank at SECID from the early 1980’s until his retirement. He was such a fun and genuinely nice person who had a great sense of humor. Loved his wisdom he shared with me about life, kids and family. My deepest condolences and prayers to Diane, his sons and beloved family. RIP Frank

Frank was my first MSP boss in 1984. I worked for and with him as administrative support until his retirement. He was a larger than life supervisor who was always supportive. His favorite phrase, "It's Green and Go" whenever there were organizational changes, which was often, is my favorite memory. My thoughts and prayers are with Diane and his family during this difficult time.
Sharing a photo from the 90's of Frank (far right) and some of MSP's finest.

Dear Frank, you made life at SECID very interesting to say the least. I still use many of your sage sayings. I'm pretty sure you're keeping many in heaven entertained. May God bless your loved ones and give them peace knowing that you will never be forgotten by those who served with you.

Frank was a wonderful man, person, and officer. An outspoken man of integrity, Frank was a beacon to all who wanted to do the right thing. His humor was always there, making him one of the greatest ambassadors in the Michigan State Police. Although his golf swing was atrocious, he played the game with the same ferocity he gave to life. All those who had the great luck to know Frank, will miss him and all the memories he created. My best to Diane and family.
