Francesco John Oliverio "Frank", age 87 of New Baltimore, and formerly of Warren, died Thursday, April 23, 2015 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. He was born April 6, 1928 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, son of the late Vincenzo and the late Rose (nee: Marchio) Oliverio. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Frank for his service to our country during the Korean War era. As a soldier in our great United States Army, he was part of the 807th Engineering Light Equipment Company of the 5th Army division, and attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. For the call to duty he answered with bravery and the willingness to stand in harm's way for the cause of freedom, we posthumously honor this proud American for serving with pride and patriotism, and for doing his part to protect this liberties we enjoy today…because he was there. For a couple years prior to his military service, Frank worked as a body repairman for the Dodge Motor Company. Following his return stateside, Frank eventually found his dream-career-niche with the utility giant, Michigan Consolidated. He worked for many years as a field technician, but a strong work ethos and dedicated service history found him climbing the ladder of success within the company where he ultimately retired as an Inspector. When he wasn't working, one of Frank's favorite pastimes was enjoyed right at home in front of the TV watching the old movies,...especially the Westerns! Movies were different back then, and he couldn't get enough of that great, old cinematic experience. He also loved a good card game, particularly the game of Poker. There was just something special about gathering friends or loved one's around the table...slingin' some ...and" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">...and" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">cards...and pitchin' the bull. And yes, like many guys, he enjoyed his sports, both watching and playing. Throughout his life, Frank participated in a number of sporting events,...but the one that towered above them all was his love of bowling. Frank was a "Kegling King" and treasured the countless memories he created and shared over the years with his fellow Bowling Buds.Frank was the kind of guy who was loved by everyone who knew him, or knew of him,...and he knew no strangers. Just a moment in his presence found you feeling as if you'd shared a lifetime together. He had a kind word for everyone, was always willing to help, and was a "true friend," indeed. Always practical,...forever a realist,...and a true fighter for a worthy cause, this was all enveloped by a heart of gold and a man who was larger than life. Yet of all that was most precious to Frank, family reigned supreme. They were the light of his life and meant the world to him. He always spoke highly and proudly of their accomplishments, and was an integral part of their growth. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Frank leaves a legacy of love that will be remembered and cherished with each reflection shared. His absence will definitely leave a void, and he will be missed immensely. May he rest in peace. Frank was the beloved husband of the late Gloria. Dearest father of Roxanne (the late Glenn) Harbert. Loving grandfather ("Papa") of Mike and Kate. Brother of Sam (Shirley) Oliverio, and the late Mary Jo Oliverio. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and a host of cherished cousins. Mr. Oliverio will lie in state on Tuesday from 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 8200 Rolyat St., Detroit, MI 48234.Memorial donations are welcomed to the Arthritis Foundation - Michigan Chapter, 1050 Wilshire Drive, Suite 302, Troy, MI 48084.
