Frank H Zak, 98, completed his worldly journey on May 25, 2025. Frank was predeceased by his spouse, Helen and his son, Robert. His shining stars were his 13 Grandchildren, Rene, Maria, Sara, Dana, Laura, Chris, Anthony, Kevin, Steven, Veronica, Colette, David, Monique and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his 5 other children, Dennis (Mary), Dianne (late Jim), Julie, Frank (Mary Ann) and Mary (Jim) Street.
Frank was born in 1926 to Bernice and James and was one of 10 children. He was taught the importance of God, family and country. He worked at the post office in Hamtramck until his retirement a long time ago. He was always proud to say that he was retired for more years than he worked. Frank and Helen raised their family in Detroit and Warren and were long time members at St Bartholomew and St Anne and family always came first. He volunteered at both parishes in many capacities for many years and delivered Holy Communion to the homebound parishioners of St Anne well into his 80’s. He was a man of great faith and also a man of few words. Frank was an accomplished video poker player and very skilled at counting cards while playing pinochle or blackjack; a skill set that he taught to at least a couple of his children. He worked 3 jobs at times, but he also had the amazing ability to disappear on family camping trips only to reappear shortly after everything was set up and operational. Only a true professional could execute that trick. Frank is also survived by his brother Ray (Carole), sisters-in-law, Josie and Marge and many nieces and nephews. Many of those nieces and nephews loved going with Uncle Frank to the casino or stopping by to take him to lunch. He was loved by all and will be missed by many.
Frank was a veteran of World War II in the Air Force Corps while it was still just a division in the US Army. In the Air Force, Frank was a skilled sharpshooter, winning many awards for his marksmanship. Frank was never afraid to undertake home improvement projects on his own, or call one of his grandchildren to do it.
A celebration of Frank’s wonderful life will be on Saturday June 7, 2025 at St Anne Catholic Church 32000 Mound Road, Warren, MI 48092. Visitation begins at 9:30 AM followed by Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you give your loved ones a hug and donate to the charity of your choosing.
