Gail L. Bacigal, age 87, of Shelby Twp., Michigan, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2026. Gail was born on October 20, 1939, to Louis and Rose (Mezza) Melasi in Detroit, Michigan. Gail was a loving and devoted woman whose greatest joy in life was her family. They were the center of her world, and nothing was more important to her than the love she shared with them. A true storyteller, Gail pulled people in close and turned simple stores and memories of times gone by into lessons of love, wisdom, and laughter. A visit with Gail always felt like a warm hug from mom and left you feeling all would be well.
Gail found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Time spent in her garden tending to flowers and creatures of all shapes and sizes. Time spent with family and friends tending to the things that mattered most to those she loved; and time spent in reflection and prayer tending to that which connected and bound it all together. She made sure the squirrels had plenty of peanuts, food and a resting place for the birds to nest, homes for the feral cats, fairy gardens for her grandchildren, and a safe and warm space for all to call home. Her kindness and compassion extended to all living things, and her caring nature was evident in the way she looked after those around her.
Spirituality wasn’t simply something she believed, but something she embodied in the way she lived, loved, and moved through the world. As a spiritual director for St. Blasé Parish, Gail did not need to convince the world of their spirituality. It revealed itself in her presence – in the peace she carried, the compassion she offered, and the truth she refused to abandon. Gail found the divine not somewhere beyond the world but woven into its ordinary moments – in the morning light, in human kindness, in silence, and in the simple courage of being fully herself. She will truly be missed by all she touched and we are better for having known her.
Gail is the beloved wife of Gary Bacigal for 66 years; loving mother of Lora Leniczek, Linda (David) Dault and Eric (Bill Wozniak) Bacigal; Proud grandmother of Nicholas (Stacy) Leniczek, Marie and Andrew Leniczek, Timothy (Amanda) Dault, Abagail (Brady) McInnis, Joseph, Jacob and Dan Dault; Great-grandmother of Makenna, Maeve, Laiken Dault; Dominic Tilford; Harrison, and Ezra McInnis.
