Genevieve Glowicki, age 95 of Warren, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late Frank and the late Mary (nee: Rogowska) Soltys. In her early years, Genevieve's work history included experiences such as her brief stint with the telephone company as an Operator, and the time she spent at the iconic Hostess Bakery. But to those who truly knew this wonderful lady, they'll surely attest to her greatest work being that as a Homemaker & Mom. With a loving husband and three beautiful children in her care, tending to them was the most important job that Genevieve ever held. Of course, in making it all come together, she managed to call upon some of her inner strengths and skills,…like the ones she possessed in the kitchen. Genevieve could work some incredible magic in that space with her talents as an outstanding cook. She often conjured up meals that could have easily earned her all kinds of culinary prizes, but her greatest reward was simply seeing the satisfaction of her well-fed family. It's been said, "when you're eating, you're happy,"…and Genevieve did everything she could to assure that she was raising one happy family. And not merely in her cooking, she was also renowned for her delicious baked goods as well. Though her dessert repertoire was rife with many various delicacies, it was her Lemon and Apple Pies that made your eyes roll back in your head out of sheer delight. Genevieve will also be remembered for the neat & tidy home she kept, with everything in its place all neat & clean. And she was certainly the one that everybody called upon when a clothing tragedy hit. If something needed a little sewing repair or alteration, Genevieve was always handy with a needle and thread in hand. She could darn a sock like a pro,…which, I guess, made her a "darn good sock fixer," too! When it came to pastimes she enjoyed, it would have been hard to beat her love of bowling. Perhaps one of the most popular indoor sports for us Midwesterners, it offered Genevieve the perfect balance of fun, exercise and friendship,…and many years of wonderful & memorable moments that she reflected on often. Another aspect of Genevieve's life that will forever leave a lasting impression was her immense and abiding faith. A longtime parishioner, for over 25 years, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren, Genevieve had the heart of a servant and the care of a saint. She emanated the love of God in so many ways, especially in helping to take care of thousands through her many charitable outreaches. From St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to the Easter Seals, and numerous other venues of giving to the less fortunate, Genevieve's ministry of giving touched countless hearts and lives in her journey through life. So much about Genevieve's life was remarkable, just like the fact that she managed to get through it all without ever driving a car. NOT EVER! Just how does one process that,…by being blown away,…or envious? Whatever the case, she must have been a "Miracle Mom" to pull it off without wheels. Her family affirmed that she was "always happy,"…probably due much in part to avoiding rush hour traffic with people on their smartphones. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Genevieve leaves behind a storehouse of wonderful memories built and shared with all the loved ones who brought her joy beyond expression. Spending time with family was always the most precious moments of all, especially when it involved her cherished grandbabies. At 95 years old, Genevieve lived a long and fruitful life, and now goes to join her beloved Theodore,…along with her 11 siblings who preceded her in death. The last of 12 children to gain her Heavenly Home, the legacy of love she leaves is strong and true, and will always be a fond reflection for all who were blessed to know and be loved by this amazing servant. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Genevieve was the beloved wife of the late Theodore. Dear mother of Daniel (Sarah) Glowicki, Cynthia (Ted) Labuda, and Thomas (Sheila) Glowicki. She was the loving grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of eight. Visitation for Genevieve will be held Sunday, August 28th from 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile) in Warren. She will lie in state on Monday from 9:00 am until the time of her Funeral Mass at 9:30 am at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Warren. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. Please share memories of Genevieve at her memory book above.
