George R. Verbal, age 75, died on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was born January 16, 1939 to the late George Verbal and the late Anna (nee:Babej) Verbal.A proud graduate of Detroit's Pershing High School, George was also a distinguished veteran with the United States Air Force in the early years of the Vietnam War. Having achieved the rank of Airman Second Class, he answered the call to duty with honor and served with dedication to his country. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to George for his service and his willingness to stand in harm's way for such an unselfish cause.Meanwhile,…though his attention in the early 60's was directed toward his military service, it's not the only thing that occupied his mind. The comforts of home also included the warmth and affection he shared with a beautiful woman, the same woman he chose to be his wife. And so it was,…on June 29, 1963, he promised himself in marriage to the love of his life, Elizabeth,…more affectionately known as "Elsie." From there, these two lovebirds would go on to share 52 wonderful years together growing deeper in love with each passing day.Proud of both his alma mater and military service, another pride-making aspect of George's life was his employment with the Chrysler Corporation where he worked as an Electrician. Dedicated and loyal to his career, he was also quite adept in seeing a job to its completion with a skill-set that was both unique and remarkable. When George wasn't working, there's no question that he was a devout Michigander as two of his favorite pastimes were centered around the water. If he wasn't riding on top of it in a boat, you'd probably find him down at one of his favorite fishing holes trying to reel in "The Big One." He truly enjoyed this Peninsula State of ours and all it had to offer. Another notable pastime involved George's passion for football. From back in his high school days when he played the sport, to his arm-chair quarterbacking later in life, football played a huge part in his entertainment pleasures. Boating, fishing and football were all about George. But when it came to sharing the goodness of life with his bride, nothing much could match the enjoyment of heading south to their 2nd home in Florida. The warmth and relaxation of the Sunshine State called their names quite often, and they answered that call with a passion and fervor that only a snowbird can know. We can all be defined by certain, undeniable traits,…and few would argue that George's most profound trait was his laughter. Not only was it infectious, it was one of those laughs that came from the depths of his gut! If the thrust of the moment or joke didn't spark a chuckle, just hang on,…George's laugh was about to have you in stitches. He loved to laugh and found great joy in bringing laughter to the hearts of others. He was a happy soul whose humor and resounding guffaws just had to be the roots of……wait for it……(lol).Being the jolly and helpful guy he was, it just made perfect sense that he would choose to join the brotherhood of the Knights of Columbus. A longtime member of the Fr. Kramer Council in Center Line, he found great reward and enjoyment alongside his fraternal brothers,…and ultimately achieved the level of 3rd Degree Knight. This type of unselfish giving is the fabric with which George's life was woven, and it wrapped many in the friendship and love he so freely shared. He touched a multitude of hearts and lives along the way, and will be missed immensely. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth "Elsie". Loving brother of Judy Vohs, and the late Dennis Verbal. Brother-in-law of Annette (Mike) Stolarski, the late Alfred, and Joseph Kotsch. Devoted uncle of many nieces and nephews. Visitation for George will be held on Monday, June 23rd from 3-9pm, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary Service at 7:00pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 12:30pm at the Funeral Home, with special honors being rendered by his fellow brothers-in-arms, the Power Squadron. Interment will follow, with Air Force Military Honors, at St. Clement Cemetery in Center Line, Michigan. Please share memories of George at his memory book.
