Born in Detroit on October 18, 1947, to Warren Denison and Winifred Agnes (Terry) Mills, Jerry grew up with a strong sense of family and purpose. He attended Clarenceville High School and went on to graduate with a B.S. from Wayne State University, a testament to his commitment to hard work and setting high expectations.
Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a decorated veteran and received six medals including the Bronze Star. After his service, he built a long and respected career at General Motors, where he worked for several decades. His dedication and innovation were recognized with prestigious honors, including the General Motors President’s Council Honors in 1998 and the GM Chairman’s Honor in 1999, awarded for his outstanding contributions to the Ensure Maximum Production Team.
Jerry was a man of many talents and interests. He was always ready to lend a hand—whether lifting the hood of a car to figure out what was wrong, building furniture pieces from scratch, or offering wisdom gained from his well-tended victory garden. He enjoyed participating in golf, softball, and bowling leagues, and had a lifelong love of travel and professional sports, especially golf, baseball, and football.
A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jerry valued camaraderie, service, and community. He will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, and unwavering support of those he loved.
A devoted father, Jerry was deeply proud of his daughter, Jennifer Keeter, and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jeffrey Mills, and is survived by Jennifer and his sister, Janice Mills.
