Gerald Kenneth Zwolinski, age 58, died Tuesday, September 17, 2019 in Warren, Michigan. He was born February 28, 1961 in Detroit, and was the youngest child of the late Wladyslaw and the late Katherine (nee: Schumacher) Zwolinski.
Born and raised in Detroit, Gerald and his family eventually made their way to the ethnic community of Hamtramck where he attended Queen of Apostles Elementary School, and would ultimately graduate from St. Florian High School. Following his schooling, Gerald decided to join the workforce and was hired by the folks at Home Style Foods where he was employed in food preparation. As time marched on, he supposed that a degree might help him climb a rung or two on that ladder of life, so Gerald enrolled himself at Macomb Community College where he proudly attained his Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. While attending the college, he managed to build a friendly relationship with the folks at the college bookstore. That, along with his newfound degree, would culminate in his being offered a position as the bookstore’s stock manager, a job he held in the highest esteem by keeping the bookstore well supplied.
When he wasn’t working, Gerald found great enjoyment in attending the many and varied ethnic festivals that speckles the tri-county area throughout the summer,…particularly the German festivals. Being of German descent, Gerald was truly enthralled by his heritage and enveloped by its many characteristics, especially the music of the motherland that filled his soul. To add to those traditions and cultural delights, Gerald was also blessed to share wonderful memories of his trips to Germany as well. Not merely immersed in the things he had read and heard, the gift if walking the streets and soaking up the reality of it all brought him inexpressible pleasure and joy.
Other favorite pastimes & memories included long drives,…helping his brother, Wally and sister, Ursula in taking care of the family lawn,…and the annual trips to the Irish Hills of Michigan to find the perfect Christmas Tree, then heading home to adorn the house with Christmas lights galore. The topper was when they finished and would sit down together for a warm & tasty cup of cocoa. It was like a siblings’ Hallmark moment. And never having children of his own, Gerald was blessed to be a wonderful uncle to his precious nieces and lived for every opportunity of sharing their walks together,…which, by the way, just happened to include a stop at the local 7-11 for a cool & refreshing Slurpee. That’s when Gerald became the Best Uncle of All!
A loving son, brother and uncle, Gerald impacted the hearts of many in his journey through life and leaves the memories made for all to cherish with each reflection shared. He will truly be missed and lovingly remembered.
Gerald was the beloved son of the late Walter & Katherine Zwolinski. Dearest brother of the late Wally, and the late Ursula. Brother-in-law of Cynthia Zwolinski, and uncle of Erika, Kristina, and Alexander.
He will lie in state on Tuesday, September 24th beginning at 9:00 am, with a Chaplet of the Divine Mercy Service at 9:15 am, at St. Faustina Catholic Church in Warren. His Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd.) in Warren.
