Born in Bristol, Tennessee, Glenn moved to Detroit at the age of eight, where he would grow up and build the life he cherished so deeply. A devoted Christian, husband, father, and family man, Glenn stayed busy all his life enjoying every minute he had.
Known affectionately as “Schooner,” a nickname whose origin was always a mystery, Glenn was full of personality and warmth. He worked for many years at the post office, retiring from a time when mail carriers walked door to door, rain or shine. Glenn was an avid bowler and loved meeting new people at the lanes. Whenever he did, he was quick to pull out his wallet and proudly show high school graduation photos of himself and his sweetheart and future bride, JoAnn. He was also a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. He attended games at Briggs stadium as a teen and later enjoyed games with his young family at Tiger Stadium.
Growing up as an only child, Glenn found immense joy in the large family he and his wife built together. He was “one of the kids,” always ready to play. His kids fondly remember winters when he flooded the backyard so it could freeze into an ice rink for skating, along with bike rides, wiffle ball games, and basketball all shared with neighborhood kids. In more recent years, Glenn especially enjoyed going out with family to Leo’s Coney Island every Wednesday and Saturday for his favorite Western omelet. He was rarely seen without his trademark hat that read “90 Never Looked So Good,” complete with a handwritten “+1” added by his granddaughter when he turned 91.
Glenn and his wife JoAnn shared 69 years of marriage and built a beautiful life and family together. He missed her dearly after her passing and looked forward to being reunited with her once again.
