Gloria D. Oliverio, age 75 of Detroit, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at St. John Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights. She was born on October 23, 1934 in Detroit, daughter of the late Walter and the late Katherine (nee: Dusza) Mayes. Along with the five senses God gave her, Gloria also possessed some other senses unique to her character. First and most familiar to all was her "sense of humor." She loved to laugh and bring laughter to the lives of others, as well. With a happy heart and a spirit of joy, Gloria had a way of brightening the day of all who crossed her path. Next was her "sense of adventure" which was most often satisfied and enjoyed through her love of gambling. When it came to the games of chance, she could shine with the best of them. And then there was her "sense of competition & sportsmanship" which was never more highlighted than through her favorite boys of summer, the Detroit Tigers. The sluggers wearing that infamous old english "D" have never had a greater fan than that in the person of Gloria, and she loved each opportunity she got to see them play. Another sport she truly enjoyed, and enjoyed playing, was the game of bowling. Spending time with fellow "rollers" always made for a great time, good exercize, and lots of fun memories. Gloria was also regarded as a loving and reverent woman of God. Devout in her faith, her life was a loving and compassionate model of Christianity. She had a giving spirit and was the kind of person who was admired by all. She loved spending time with family and friends, making the special moments that she always held dear. To those whose lives she touched, she leaves a legacy of love to be cherished eternally. She will be missed immensely. Gloria was the beloved wife of Frank. She was the dear mother of Roxanne (Glenn) Harbert. Loving grandmother of Michael and Katie. Sister of Phyllis Adamczyk. Visitation for Gloria will be on Friday, October 8th from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, with a 7:00pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. She will lie in state on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of mass at 10:30am at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 8200 Rolyat Street in Detroit. Interment will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Please share memories of Gloria at her guest book.
