Born in Detroit to the late Frank and Rose Bracken, Gloria was a devote Catholic and longtime church member. The years raising her young five children mostly on her own after her husband Patrick passed away suddenly made Gloria very industrious. When her kids were younger and they lived downriver, Gloria began gardening and found she was quite good at it. What started as a small flower garden grew to a large garden and adjoining vegetable garden especially when the family moved and she had more land to use. She canned a plethora of vegetables from cucumbers to tomatoes, green beans, and more used them throughout the year to make different dishes at dinnertime. When her kids were older, they passed on what she taught them and canned and grew vegetables of their own. In the years when she moved close to her mom, after they would plant trees they made a habit of treating themselves with a cocktail or two after. Gloria would knit and sew pillows, sweaters, and more for family and friends throughout the years. She took pride in being able to make things for them or giving them something from the heart with things she already had. When her kids were grown up, they made a point of staying close often going out shopping together and out to lunch. She went on a few cruises with her husband Marcel and they had many happy years together. Gloria was the host of every holiday celebration. She made a delicious mince pie and everyone looked forward to the Belgian cookies she made for the festivities. Everyone could count on being sent home with a bundle of cookies afterward that usually didn’t last anyone very long because they were so good. Gloria took every challenge she faced in life in stride. What she didn’t have or couldn’t get she made for herself. In the last few years, looking back on her life Gloria would say she was content with the life she lived and the family she built. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Gloria will be missed dearly by all who survive her.
