Gordon graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in Detroit in 1950. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Detroit in 1955, then served in the U.S. Army at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. After his military service, he began a 41-year career at Detroit Edison, serving as a Senior Power and Transmission Planning Engineer. His knowledge and dedicated service reflected his strong work ethic. At Detroit Edison, he also met the love of his life, Magdalen. They married on May 13, 1961. Together, they shared a loving marriage, four wonderful children, and three equally wonderful grandchildren (at least, that’s how the kids and grandkids tell it), building a lifetime of memories until her passing on November 24, 2020.
Gordon’s Catholic faith also guided his life. At St. Sylvester Catholic Church, he served on the parish council, volunteered as an usher, and assisted with funeral Masses. After retirement, he continued serving at St. Faustina Catholic Church as an usher and proclaimed the readings during Mass.
In his leisure time, Gordon enjoyed working on projects around the house and spending time at the cottage he built in Canada. He took pride in his home and found satisfaction in staying busy and fixing things. His devotion to family, career, church, and faith - and his willingness to serve others - defined his life. He leaves a legacy of love, commitment, and cherished memories in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Gordon was the beloved husband of the late Magdalen; loving father of Robert C. Webster, Stephen M. Webster, and Joanne M. Webster; and cherished grandfather of Henry G. Webster, Sophie M. Webster, and Samuel G. Webster. He was the dear brother-in-law of Donna D. (Guzdziol) Lawrence and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence J. Webster; his siblings, Charles M. (Marie T. Riebel) Webster, Jr. and Betty A. Webster; and his brother-in-law, William S. Lawrence.
Gordon will lie In State on Monday, November 9th from 8:00am until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:30am St. Faustina Catholic Church, 14025 12 Mile Rd, Warren, MI.
