Harold C. Tapert Jr., age 78, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, in Warren, Michigan. He was born on October 22, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Harold C. Tapert Sr. and the late Mary Tapert.
Harold was raised in Detroit, and later moved to Warren where he attended Cousino High School, and Macomb Community College before beginning his career with Chrysler. He proudly answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy, serving honorably for six years. Following his discharge in 1972, he returned to Chrysler, where he worked as a welder until his retirement in 2001.
One evening in 1973, while out bowling with friends, Harold met the love of his life, Karen. After two years of dating, they were married on August 30, 1975, in Detroit. Together they built their forever home in Warren, where they spent more than 48 years raising their family and creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
Harold had a passion for computers and enjoyed designing programs. One of his proudest accomplishments was creating a scoring program for the Square Shooters shooting league, which tracked scores, shooting averages, and matchups. He loved spending time with the members of the league and was always willing to step in as a substitute shooter whenever needed.
In his younger years, Harold also enjoyed bowling and treasured family camping trips to Cadillac. Some of his favorite memories were made while canoeing and tubing down the river. Anyone who knew Harold knew he never floated with just one tube—he always had a second tube alongside him carrying the cooler filled with beverages and a radio, making sure everyone had a good time.
Harold will be remembered as an incredibly intelligent man with an exceptional talent for mathematics and numbers. Friends often marveled at his ability to remember birthdays, and many looked forward each year to receiving Harold’s thoughtful birthday email. Above all, he was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his quick wit, and the love he had for his family.
He was the beloved husband of Karen for 50 wonderful years. Loving father of Jason Tapert and Randi (Kenny) Hallas. Cherished Papa of Madysen, Ryleigh, and Baylie. Dear brother of Bonnie Schimmel, Gail (Steven) Urbanec, Shirley (the late Robert) Breuhan, Barry (Jody) Tapert, the late Michael Tapert, and the late Tammie Dziubarczyk. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Visitation for Harold will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service beginning at 7:30 p.m. at D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12½ Mile Road), Warren.
