Born in Trumann, Arkansas to the late Clyde and Levon Byrd, Harry retired from Pomaville Roofing Company and served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. For those that knew Harry could say he was a strong, proud, humble, yet man of few words. He not only opened his home to care for many children through the foster system, but to anyone that needed a safe space. The love he showcased through his selfless ways shines through. A classic car enthusiast, one of Harry’s proudest accomplishments was when he was able to finally restore his 1939 Chevy with his son Paul. Harry will be remembered as a One-of-a-Kind man, whether it be in his unique way of problem solving, or the fact that he over came all the obstacles that stood in his way. Some would say if you wanted to find Harry just go to Winner’s Bar or the Corner Pub and you would be sure to find him.
Once Harry retired, he spent his time up in the Traverse City area (Beulah, Benzonia), where he enjoyed fishing, playing pool on his pool league, or just hanging out at the Corner Pub. He had a love for traveling and warmer weather. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially in the last few years of his life when he relocated to Saint Clair Shores after his health declined. And against all odds he was able to enjoy the last 6 and a half amazing years making memories whether it was playing pool with the Grand Children, his trip to Hollywood Florida, or his latest adventure of the Caribbean cruise he lived his best life to the fullest. He was easy like Sunday morning and Along for the ride. One of his favorite rides was taking a drive down Lake Shore Drive any chance he could get, and the drives through Detroit pointing out all the buildings he worked on. He loved his sweets but at the end of the day he loved his children and grandchildren something fierce. He will dearly be missed by all that survive him.
Beloved father of Kenneth (Rob), Sunya (Tyson), Paul (Amanda), Darren, Erica (Wes) along with his grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A Celebration of Life Service for Harry will be held at a later date.
Memorial Donations to The Vietnam Veterans of America, American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association are appreciated.
