Helen Joann Krawiec, age 97, died Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Ascension St. John Hospital in Warren. She was born May 20, 1922 in Hamtramck, Michigan, daughter of the late Joseph and the late Caroline (nee: Stepien) Jozefiak.
During the World War II era, Helen had the honor and distinction of being one of our country’s famous, “Rosie the Riveters”…the women who did their part in supporting the war effort by helping to build the many aircraft that fought the battles overseas. As for Helen, she was specifically tasked in working on the B-24 Liberators, one of the Army Air Corps’ mightiest warriors in the sky. With pride in the work she performed, her skills and talents would be widely sought after, following the war, by the folks at Chrysler Motors who had a position with her name on it. And so it was that Helen transitioned from aircraft to automobiles and spent the next 30 years devoting herself to the automotive giant and the work she enjoyed. Along with being a dedicated worker, Helen was also quite proud of her membership with the United Auto Workers (the U.A.W.), her “union family” who stood together through thick & thin as they helped make Detroit the thriving motor capital it had become.
Yet for as passionate as she was about her career, Helen was equally so about her precious family,…especially her cherished grandchildren. They provided a youthfulness to her soul that made each moment a treasured one, and Helen relished every opportunity she was afforded in their company. Family meant the world to Helen, as evidenced in the care she extended towards her parents in their time of need. With an unselfish heart and the desire to help others whenever able, Helen made a wonderful difference in a multitude of lives in her journey this side of Heaven,…and leaves a legacy of love to be embraced with each reflection shared. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late Stephen, and dearest mother of Leonard (Janet) Krawiec. She was the loving grandmother of Jennifer (Brian), Joseph, Jillien (Anthony), Michael (Nicole), Crystal and great-grandmother of ten.
