Born on February 19, 1925, in Hamtramck, Michigan, to John and Lottie Kuchna, Helen lived a full and vibrant life that spanned a century of love, resilience, and joy. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Schreiber and later the late Henry Maslowski. A dedicated and loving mother, she is survived by her children Robert (Bernice) Schreiber and Pamela (Henry) Wrobel. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Celeste Schreiber and son James (the late Elaine) Schreiber.
Helen was the cherished grandmother of eight and great-grandmother to ten more, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. She was also preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Virginia Kuchna and Irene Soban.
A woman of enduring faith, Helen was a longtime parishioner of St. Dorothy Catholic Church for over 20 years, where she found great comfort and community, often attending Mass with her grandson. After relocating to Arizona, she continued her devotion at Our Lady of Grace, where she worshipped faithfully for eight years.
Helen had a zest for life and a deep appreciation for simple joys. Introduced to bowling by her first husband, she bowled into her 90s, only giving it up at age 92. She was known to polka dance at every opportunity, her energy and joy infectious. Sundays often began with church, followed by breakfast buffets at the casino with her son—where she always made time for the slot machines. She loved dining out, with Olive Garden and Red Lobster being two of her favorite spots.
Raising four children while working, Helen was a woman of quiet strength and tireless dedication. Her name is memorialized at the Rosie the Riveter Memorial among others for her contributions to the war effort. Her love for her family was unwavering, and the pride she took in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was immeasurable.
Helen’s legacy is one of warmth, perseverance, laughter, and deep love. She will be remembered always for her bright spirit, steadfast faith, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
