

Helen Sherwin, age 85, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Bortz Health Care of Warren, Michigan. Helen was born October 11, 1928 in Chattaroy, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Jay Doss and the late Pauline (nee: Hampton) Doss.Helen was raised in West Virginia and it was there that she started her young family before moving to Michigan. Once settled in Michigan, Helen was employed as a grocery store cashier, and would later go on to spend 13 years with Chrysler Motors where she worked as a press operator. It is from there that she ultimately sought her retirement and went on to enjoy the fruits of her labors.When Helen was not working, her life revolved around her family and her faith. She was a member of The Woods Church in Warren, and also attended Northshore Church in New Baltimore. Helen found great delight in the quiet times at home and the sanctuary it truly offered. She also possessed a creative side which often found its form in the venue of ceramics, or the visual splendor of cake decorating. Not only were her cakes a tasty treat to enjoy, they were also a thing of beauty.A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Helen leaves behind a storehouse of wonderful memories for her loved ones to draw upon with each remembrance shared. Whether family or friend, she touched countless hearts and souls through her care and compassion, and lived a life that was an example of the Lord she served. Her legacy of love is immeasurable, and will surely abide with all those who were blessed to know her. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Helen was the beloved wife of Samuel Robert Sherwin, and dear mother of Charles (Joyce) Hanshaw, Ellen Kay Riley, John (Julie) Hanshaw, Jan (Rick) Beam, and William (Mary) Sherwin. Helen was the loving grandmother of Edward, Ginger, Lance, Patrick, Josh, Jeff, Melissa, Rick, Lisa, and great-grandmother of Euphoria, Michaela, Griffin, Alisa, Sierra, Andrew, Levi, Selah, Luke L, Grace, Eddie, Michelle, Luke R, Travis, Jacob, Allison, and Tala. She was the dear sister of Charles (Jeanette) Doss, Linda (Lee) LaForest, Joyce (Wendell) Sexton, John Cavins, Jim Cavins, Ron Cavins, the late Jay (Bertha) Doss, and the late Ernest Doss. Sister in-law of Geri Doss. Visitation for Mrs. Sherwin will be Friday, May 23rd from 3-9pm, with an 8pm Evening Prayer Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. Interment, with Committal Prayers, will take place at 11:00am on Saturday at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
