Irene Teresa Wozniak, age 73 of Warren, died at her home Saturday, January 17, 2004. She was born December 24, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late Michal Piejak and the late Bronislawa (nee: Samolej) Piejak. Alvin, her loving husband of 52 years, survives Irene. She is the loving mother of Carol (Michael) McDonell, Donna Wozniak (John Darling), and the late Mark Wozniak. She is the devoted grandmother of Cameron & Celeste Darling, and dear sister of Alexandria Bialokur, Steven (Patricia) Piejak, and the late Jane Kramer. After being raised in Detroit, Mrs. Wozniak was a resident of Warren for over 35 years. She was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church and also the Ladies auxiliary of the American-Polish Century Club of Sterling Heights. Other memberships included the Polish Womens Alliance council #20, with whom Mrs. Wozniaks daughters polish danced. Mrs. Wozniak was an extensive world traveler, however she never enjoyed the travel part, but immensely enjoyed her end destination, traveling to Poland, and many of the United States. Her daughter remembers her crying when she saw the beauty of the Grand Canyon, and also remembers her fascination with the sites of Hawaii, seeing volcanoes and sleeping in a rain forest on the side of a volcano, going aboard a submarine and seeing the many tropical fish. After visiting these spectacular places, Mrs. Wozniak would say, I have lived a full life. Mrs. Wozniak never complained; she was raised by a mother who worked in a laundry, Irene would often be found with an iron in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Other times she would be sewing outfits for her daughters and even sewed the traditional Polish dance troupe outfits. She loved puzzles and games, often having family game night with cards and other board games. She loved Fill-In-Puzzle books, and later loved playing Shang-Hi on her computer. Her family will cherish these special memories of their mother and wife. Mrs. Wozniak will lie in state Thursday January 22, 2004, at 9:00 am at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, until the time of the funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Officiating the funeral will be Rev. Fr. Timothy Galos. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
