The family of Janice Gwen Kook celebrates a life well lived as they announce her passing at the age of 75 on July 6, 2026. She was a loving mother and wife, devoted grandmother, and treasured friend whose kindness and caring nature will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Taking care of family was the center of Janice’s world. She found joy in creating a childhood filled with love and creativity for her four children. Birthdays were marked by an elaborate homemade cake, complete with the special cake pan each child chose for the occasion. She lovingly sewed Halloween costumes and Easter outfits, welcomed a wide variety of pets into the family, and spent countless hours driving her kids to soccer, dance, scouts, and other extracurricular activities. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, and a variety of arts and crafts. Family camping trips helped instill the love of nature in her children, with every detail planned to organize two tents and make sure her children had everything they needed.
Janice shared her caring nature beyond her own family by serving as a Girl Scout leader where her nickname was “Kooker” and was known for sharing her insights on nature. Janice loved rainstorms and beautiful nature scenery, and weekend trips full of laughter, friendship and crafting with her fellow leaders continued after her daughters had grown. She volunteered with the Cub and Boy Scouts alongside her husband, the Cubmaster. She provided in-home daycare for friends and relatives and made every Christmas memorable with a wealth of gifts for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed working at the city's senior center, where she found fulfillment in serving others and connecting with the community. Those traditions and memories will continue to live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved her.
Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard T. Kook, and her dear father, Ward F. Thompson. She is survived by her loving children, Kimberly Balke, Kristen Kook (Larry), David Kook (Rachel), and Jared Kook (Jennifer); her cherished grandchildren, Lydia, Brielle, Corey, Jason, Mallory and Allison; her caring mother, Marlene L. Thompson; her siblings, Terry Thompson (Christine), Cynthia McDowell (Damean) and Michael Thompson (Victoria); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, support, and kindness during this difficult time.
