Joan Louise Kopy

Joan Louise Kopy, age 87 of Clinton Township, died Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Regency at Shelby Township Nursing Home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born June 19, 1930 in Detroit, daughter of the late Frank and the late Theresa (nee: Cichecki) Dreger. Being the mother of five beautiful children, nine precious grandchildren, and the eight amazing great-grandchildren who stole her heart, Joan's life was filled with immeasurable love through these twenty-two cherubs who brought her joy, each in their own special way. And to quote one of her son's and daughter's; "Her children and their families were most important to her because they filled her life with laughter and happiness." Oh, the joy it must have been to have all of that care and encouragement surrounding her and lifting her up.Along with her role as Mom and homemaker, Joan was also part of the work world for a period of her life. Serving as an Administrative Assistant for a paper products company, she worked diligently to keep things running like a well-oiled machine,…and she managed it all with an impressive display of flair and panache. Joan truly enjoyed her employment and extended the utmost in dedicated service until the time arrived for the next chapter in life…retirement, and the joy of journeying through those Golden Years.Speaking of journeying,…travel just happened to be one of Joan's favorite pastimes and she was blessed to have enjoyed many different and spectacular sights, both nationally and internationally. From the mountain-enveloped beauty of Austria and its architectural splendor,…to the romantic and old world charm of Italy,…and the Mediterranean Mecca of Greece, Joan's portfolio of traveling pleasures was rife with destinations that filled both her photo albums as well as her heart. There was simply something special and liberating about hopping on a plane and whisking off to places unknown,…only to have them become enchantingly captivating through their unique and engaging cultures. Joan worked hard to earn the privilege of these getaways, and get away she did.Another of her favorite joys and pastimes was filling her ears and soul with the musical highlights of 40's Swing Music. Perhaps it was the invigorating infusion that permeated her senses,…perhaps it was the excitement and reminiscent escape to days gone by? Whatever the draw, there was never a doubt that the "Swing Era" brought Joan an incredible amount of listening delights. Yet of all the escapes, the sights, and the elements of Joan's life that lifted her spirits the most, nothing could come close to the matchless love and enjoyment she knew each time she shared the company of loved ones. Spending time with family always managed to bring about those "dream come true" moments for Joan,…and nothing could compare to those God-appointed times. Some of the most special and anticipated of these memories were created each time she exchanged the blah of the concrete jungle for the beauty of heading up north to her children's cottages,…one at Indian River enveloped by the splendor of Mullett Lake, and the other off the shore of Michigan's ever-popular Higgins Lake. Each destination offered Joan its own unique beauty, but came with the same genuine benefit,…the time spent with her precious family making the moments to last a lifetime.Now, if you were to ask her grandchildren what some of their favorite recollections were with Grandma, it wouldn't be a mystery or amazing to learn that it was in sharing the fun of playing board games together,…as well as the rousing card game of "Uno." These were some of Joan's favorite memories with her grandbabies, moments that always made her feel young again. To those who truly knew Joan, they'll attest to the fact that her only selfish delight in life came in the form of her Coffee & Desserts. The old adage states; "When you're eating, you're happy"…and there was always a sense of "elation" that enveloped Joan each time she sat down with a tasty treat and washed it down with a cup of her "black gold" in a cup. And though her taste and choices of sweets covered a plethora of options, Joan's deepest enjoyment was found in a Hot Fudge Cream Puff. Talk about a little "sumpin'-sumpin" on a plate,…well, there you have it! No wonder she smiled a lot. Just imagine the Cream Puffs Heaven has to offer? A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Joan leaves behind a legacy of love for all to cherish who were blessed to have known and be touched by this beautiful lady. May each reflection be cause to celebrate, over and over again, the kindness and compassion she expressed in her journey through life,…and always, the laughter & happiness that kept it all together. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Joan was the beloved mother of John Kopy, George (Anne) Kopy, Terese (Gary) Steinetz, Ronald (Vickie) Kopy, and James (Linda) Kopy. Loving grandmother of Amanda, Sarah, Matthew, Kara, Bree, Nathan, Kyle, Shane, Zachary, and great-grandmother of Nicholas, Grace, Andrew, Olivia, Sophia, James, Liam, and Dylan. Dearest sister of Mary Anne Rausch, and the late Carol Campana. Visitation for Joan will be held Monday, November 20th from 3-9 pm, with a 7 pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. She will lie in state on Tuesday from 9:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 am at St. Blasé Catholic Church in Sterling Heights.
