Joan Marie Lukasik, age 77 of Warren, died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. She was born on September 13, 1933 in Detroit, the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (nee: Szalankiewicz) Lukasik. When it came to enjoying life, Joan did it in style. Being the consummate and thrifty shopper, she always found great delight in snagging those awesome deals on her trips to the mall. She also had great fun playing cards, especially her favorite game of poker. Yet, her gaming prowess didn't end there. One of her favorite places to visit was the casino. Together, she and her dear friend, Marilyn made many-a-trip to the various casinos around the state, giving those "one-armed bandits" a run for their money. Joan was also known for being an avid reader. Though she loved devouring the pages of a good book, it was those "grocery store rags" that brought her countless hours of pleasure. After all, if it's in the Enquirer, it's got to be true! Another of Joan's favorite pastimes was found in her love of traveling, something of which she experienced quite often. Whether it was meandering up & down the coasts of America, taking in various sights of everything else in between, or boarding a ship on one of their two cruises each year,...she and her sister, Toots made wonderful memories together seeing the world and building a traveling portfolio that was unmatched. But of all the things that brought Joan the greatest joys she knew in life, none could match the love & pleasure she cherished in the times spent with her grandchildren. Joan was quite the sports fan, with much of her TV watching time being centered around anything & everything to do with sports. But the greatest sports enjoyment she knew was sitting right there in the stands watching her grandchildren compete, live and in-person. She also loved to whisk them off for a refreshing "iced capp" at Tim Horton's, or to set a date for lunch, both of which were precious times to reflect upon. She leaves behind a legacy of love that is strong and true, and she will be missed immensely. She was the former wife of Anthony Lukasik. Cherished daughter of Helen. Dear mother of Kimberley A. (Al) Krzezewski and Karen (Paul) Humphrey. Loving grandmother of Kelli, Andrea, Allyson, and Kaylyn. A Memorial Visitation for Joan will be held Wednesday, June 1st from 5-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are welcomed to the American Cancer Society, 20450 Civic Center Drive, Southfield, MI 48076. Please share memories of Joan at her guest book.
