

John was passionate about life and family. He was a great leader and listener who was gifted with people and relationships. He had a great sense of humor! He taught his family how to lead, love and care about others. John came to America as an immigrant, and grew up on the Eastside of Detroit. He graduated from Nativity Catholic School and then received a full basketball scholarship to Lawrence Tech. He served four years in the United States Army (also playing basketball). John then met Jeanette “Jan,” and together created a loving and flourishing home for their family. John retired from State Farm Insurance. He loved people, animals and sports but nothing was more important to him than his family.
John is survived by his children Cindy (David) Pierik and John (Dana) Basilico, grandchildren Jonathan (Sarah) Pierik, , Janelle (Drew) Fain, Bryan (Emily) Basilico and Nicole (Taylor) Floyd. He had six beautiful great grandchildren Alice Pierik, Brynlee Pierik, Eli Pierik Brody Basilico, Briar Floyd and Brooklyn Floyd. Also sister-in-law Anna Basilico.
He was preceded in passing by his beloved wife Jan, parents Vito and Vita Basilico, brothers Frank Basilico and Nick Basilico.
Friends may visit the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Road, Warren, MI 48088 on Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2025 in the A.H. Peters Chapel where John will lie in state from 9:00 A.M. until the funeral service at 10:00 A.M., which will include military honors.
John will be entombed next to his wife Jan at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township following services.
