John Henry Lux, age 77 of Detroit, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2020 at the Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Warren following his long & hard fought battle with cancer. He was born January 17, 1943 in Detroit, son of the late Henry Max and the late Marie H. (nee: Thalgott) Lux.
With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to John for his service to our country as an Airmen in the U.S. Air Force. Ultimately attaining the rank of Airmen First Class (A1c), he was trained as a jet engine mechanic and exuded his expertise in keeping the jets under his wing in operational excellence and mission-ready. Being a proud patriot, John did not wait to be drafted, rather joined the ranks of those enlisting into the armed forces and served a term of four years before receiving his honorable discharge. For the sacrifices made and his willingness to stand in harm’s way at a moment’s notice, we honor John’s service and extend our posthumous gratitude for his bravery and patriotism, and for being a part of our esteemed armed forces.
Following his stint with the military, John’s civilian work experiences were spent as a laborer with the automotive giant, the Chrysler Corporation. Like many back in the day, John was part of the throngs of those who labored each day to fill our roads with the finest cars the Motor Capital had to offer.
When he wasn’t working, there was no ambiguity in the fact that John loved being a couch potato while enjoying some of his favorite television programming,…especially some of those great old movies on the classic channels. He will also be remembered for his love of cats, namely the many strays that passed through his life. He was quite the nurturer and cat whisperer,…and there are probably many of his feline friends who owed their lives to his unquestionable and unselfish care.
But mostly, John’s greatest fun and most memorable moments were those shared with his many friends as they engaged in their varied activities. Friendship was of immense importance to John, and he valued the gifts they shared amongst each other. And though each were special in their own right, the more poignant story to be told is the longstanding friendship he shared, for over 70 years, with his buddy, James Kruise. When life was awesome, James was there to share the joy. When life was a challenge, James was there to lift him up. Bottom line,…James was always there; what a beautiful testament to friendship.
A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, John leaves behind a myriad of loved ones and friends to treasure the memories made together, memories to embrace with each reflection shared. He will be missed beyond measure and loved beyond expression.
John was the loving father of Dean Lux, and the late John Lux. Treasured grandfather of Justin and Jason, and great-grandfather of Johnny. Dearest brother of Patricia Ann (Robert) Baehr and Penny Marie Lux.
In loving memory of John, memorial donations are welcomed to the American Cancer Society, 20450 Civic Center Drive, Southfield, Michigan 48076…(www.cancer.org)
Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home in Warren, Michigan.
