

John Joseph Gabrielle Podgorski born Jan. 27, 1913 in Cherry Valley Pennsylvania, was the eldest son of the late Martha and Joseph Podgorski. He helped raise his 8 siblings and traveled the United States as a young boxer. He and his two brothers fell in love with three sisters in Detroit, and three sisters married three brothers! John and Mary raised two children; Glorie and John. Mr. Podgorski owned and operated 7-Aloha bar off Goddard and 7 Mile in Detroit. For as many years he operated the bar, he befriended many and also counseled more. Great as we called for Great-grandpa, was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and never missing a Kentucky Derby. His great grandson Patrick will forever remember fishing at Farms Pier with Great. Grandma and Grandpa were always there to help and always thought we grandkids were the greatest. We could do no wrong in their eyes, and until Johns last days he still gave compliments You look so nice, Hon! John lived in his own home to the ripe age of 94, with his dedicated care nurse, Felicia. Felicia allowed Grandpa a wonderful and loving last few years without Grandma who died in May of 2003. Grandma and Grandpa will be remembered for their intense and undying love for each other, just as God intended it to be. (1 Corinthians 13). John was the beloved husband of the late Mary Podgorski, and is the dear father of Glorie (Jorge Jimenez) Stonisch, and Dr. John (Ione) Podgore. Loving grandfather of Mary Sue Stonisch-Monahan (D.J.Monahan), Gail Stonisch-Riggs(Patrick Riggs), Rudolph Stonisch III (Christine), John Eric (Larissa) Podgore, and Raelyn (Lars) Plougmann. Also survived by his great-grandchildren, Patrick John Murtagh, Ellen and Madeline Monahan, Abigail and John Riggs, Rudolph IV, Cate, and Charlie Stonisch, and Maxime Podgore. Visitation for Mr. Podgorski will be Thursday from 6-9 pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 Mile). Funeral services will begin Friday with Mr. Podgorski laying in state 11:30 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 12 Noon at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church in 157 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Shores. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Rev. Fr. John Wynnycky. Memorial donations are appreciated in Mr. Podgorski's name to the church. Please share memories of Mr. Podgorski at his guest book.
