John Swatowski

John "Jack" Swatowski Jr. age 64 of Warren died at his home Friday June 28, 2013. John was born October 30, 1948 in Detroit Michigan the son of the late John and the late Lillian (nee: Sikora) Swatowski.Mr. Swatowski was raised in Detroit and graduated from Osborn High School. He later was inducted into the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Severn during the Vietnam War. Mr. Swatowski was honorably discharged from his military service on January 22, 1971 and later enrolled in the Detroit Police Academy.Mr. Swatowski worked as a police officer for the City of Detroit for over 35 years achieving the rank of Sergeant. During his law enforcement career Sergeant Swatowski primarily worked out of the 11th Precinct and also with the TSS unit. He worked as a K-9 officer for over 15years until his retirement. During his law enforcement career and after retirement Mr. Swatowski continued his education achieving his Bachelors Degree and later just short of achieving his Masters Degree.When John was not working or studying he could be found attending anyone of his grandchildren's sporting or extracurricular events. He also had a love of motorcycles and cherished his Harley-Davidson and riding with the WartHogs. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and spending time in Northern Michigan.Mr. Swatowski was the dear father of John (Jenny) Swatowski, Lisa Swatowski, Robert (Melisa) Swatowski, and Brandon Swatowski. He is the loving grandfather of Eric, Thomas, Justin, and Owen. He is also the beloved brother of Michealene (Ron) Zielinski. Visitation for Mr. Swatowski will be Monday from 3-9pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.). Mr. Swatowski will lie in state Tuesday 9:00 am. at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church until time of Liturgy 9:30 am. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Rev. Fr. Roman Pasieczny. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly Michigan on Wednesday.
