Joseph Gaitens, age 71 of Naples, Florida, died October 6, 2009 at Covenant Healthcare Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born on February 2, 1938 in Daganum, England to parents, the late Patrick and the late Anne (nee: Gierthy) Gaitens. We pay homage to Joseph for the service he rendered our country as a soldier in the Unites States Army. Joseph was employed by the Chrysler Corporation where he worked as a Quality Control Engineer. When he wasn't working, Joseph enjoyed the yin & yang of sports. On the milder and more serene side, he could be found down by the river casting his line in the water while fly-fishing. But when it came to unleashing the wilder side, you could always count on Joseph to be rootin' on the University of Michigan, seeing as he was one of their biggest fans. Known more affectionately to all as "Papa," Joseph truly revelled in the lighter side of life and had a wonderful & great sense of humor. Always the prankster, he simply enjoyed bringing laughter to the hearts of everyone. He also loved to kick back with an "occasional" beer, and his family reflects on just how many occasions seemed to present themselves in Joseph's life! Like many Michiganian's, Joseph was a snowbird. In the warmer months, he loved spending time on the lake up north in Gladwin. When the months turned colder, he headed south for the sun & fun in beautiful Naples, Florida. Joseph touched the lives of all who knew him, and he will be missed immensely. Beloved husband of Agnes. Dear father of Michelle (Jim) Hartfield, Stephanie and Kathleen. Loving Papa of Derek, Brenden and Shannon. Brother of James, George, and Annie Parke. Brother-in-law of Margaret McDonald and Lynda Andrews. Joseph's Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, October 10 at 9:30am at St. Rene Goupil Catholic Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Visitation will be from 9am until time of the Mass at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. Donations appreciated to the Guy Beauregard family in care of Vicki Beauregard. Please share memories of Joseph at his guest book.
