Joseph F. Rheker Jr., age 90, of Warren, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Joe passed away at St. Clement Cemetery, after having pruned the vegetation around Jesus to his satisfaction! He was born June 30, 1932 in Detroit to the late Joseph Sr. and the late Anna Rheker.
Joe was a De La Salle High School Graduate, a U.S. Navy Veteran, and a GM retiree after 47 1/2 years of employment. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Clement Catholic Church and a 70 year member of the Catholic Kolping Society. Joe was also a multi-gallon blood donor for the Red Cross. He was passionate about helping family members whenever a woodworking challenge arose in their home. From bar building to fence erecting, nothing was too big or too small. A perfectionist to the end!
Joe was the beloved husband of Lynne for almost 60 years; dear father of Karen (Mark) Ratusznik, Lori (Paul) Godlewski, Mary (Douglas) Phillips, Joseph Rheker III, and Amy (Michael) Bates; loving grandfather of Alicia, Ashley (Troy), Marc, Nicole (Patrick), Joshua, Tyler (Victoria), Anna, Noah, Micayla, Luke, Troy, and Josie; cherished great-grandfather of Leo, Colton, Lily, Lakelynne, and still counting; and brother of the late Donald (Nancy) Rheker and the late Anita (the late Robert) Bochy.
A visitation for Joseph will be held Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at D.S. Temrowski and Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road, Warren, Michigan 48093. Joe will lie in state Friday, June 9, 2023 from 9:30 AM until time of funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families- St. Clement Site, 25320 Van Dyke Avenue, Center Line, Michigan 48015. Burial to follow at St. Clement Catholic Cemetery.
