Joseph N. Vergote, age 86 of Warren, died Friday, April 17, 2009 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. Joseph was born February 14, 1923 in Detroit, the son of the late Emil and the late Maria (nee: Thytgat) Vergote. Not long after his marriage to his loving bride, Edith, Joseph entered the military and proudly served our country in World War II as a sailor in the United States Navy. During his time of service, he attained the rank of Seaman 1st Class and was decorated for his efforts at sea within the Asiatic-Pacific region. Joseph was renown for having two passions when it came to enjoying life. One was his garden and the other, bowling. When it came to his garden, the work of his hands was, truly, a representation of his heart. It was adorned with many different varieties of flowers, but the "prize beauties" were definitely his roses. Being a member of the Rose Society, he poured himself into nurturing them and creating a bit of "Landscaped Heaven," right there, in his own yard for all to see and enjoy. As for bowling, Joseph was truly a devout "Alley Warrior." Being a member of four different leagues, he enjoyed the comaraderie that accompanied the sport and the friendships that ensued. He was pretty good with the ball as well, and most proud of the 155 average that he pulled down. And as if bowling wasn't fun enough, Joseph couldn't pass up the opportunity to exercise his humorous side. He will forever, and lovingly, be remembered for how he liked to tease his family and friends. Joseph is survived by his daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Vergote; siblings, Jean Vanderhagen and Leo Vergote; grandchildren, William (Joyce) Parish, Kevin (Carol) Parish, Rodney (Gail) Parish, and James (Alicen) Vergote; great grandchildren, Joy, Neal, Joseph, Ashley, and Alyssa. He is predeceased by his wife, Edith and his son, James Vergote. Visitation for Mr. Vergote will be held Wednesday 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road). His Funeral Service will be Thursday 11:00 am at the Funeral Home. Officiating the Funeral Service will be Rev. Fr. Donald Sopiak. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Please share memories at Joseph's guest book.
