Joyce Griffith Cole passed away on April 8, 2021 following a long battle with dementia and brain injuries. Joyce was the daughter of Cecil Griffith and Rudell Rawls Griffith. She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Cole, of Luz, Portugal and her grandson, Dr. Cole Stasek of San Diego, California.
Joyce was an outgoing, active member of the Warren community her entire life. Graduating from Lincoln High School where she was a majorette, she married James Cole and they spent the rest of their lives in Warren. James Cole died after a decade-long illness in 1990. They both worked their entire careers at Lincoln Finance Company in Livonia, Michigan. Joyce was one of the few working moms of her generation and was very proud of her secretarial and accounting skills.
Joyce enjoyed travel out west, china painting, and shopping. She volunteered every year with the Lincoln High School class reunion organizers. She was a talented dancer and painter, and a steadfast friend. Her high school girlfriends and the neighborhood “girls” were an important part of her life. In the later part of her life Joyce was contacted by her first boyfriend from junior high, Ben Lentz. They were a couple for many years until his death a few years ago. They enjoyed many travel adventures with their dear friends, John and Marilyn Kontos.
Joyce’s only grandson, Cole, was a joy to her. She never missed one of his football, basketball or soccer games in school. The phrase “my grandson the doctor” was too briefly on her lips before the dementia stole even that precious memory from her.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road) in Warren.
