Kenneth Horace Brooks, age 58 of Clinton Township, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. He was born February 14, 1957 (a Valentine's Day baby) in Detroit, son of Delilah (nee: Mason) Brooks and the late Willie Brooks. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Kenneth for his service to our country as a soldier in our great United States Army. For answering the call to duty with pride & patriotism, and his willingness to stand in harm's way for the furtherance of freedom, we honor him and extend our sincerest posthumous gratitude for defending the United States of America.Kenneth was a man who possessed strong work ethics and always poured the best of himself into his work as a Construction Contractor. Much like his Lord & Savior, Jesus who worked with his hands, so did Kenneth,…with a dedication toward success that set him apart from the rest. With an entrepreneurial spirit at his core, and a desire to "be the man" instead of "working for the man," Kenneth ultimately ventured out and began his own contracting business,…now, a self-employed Owner/Operator,…and happy to be on his own. When he wasn't working on the job, Kenneth found great reward in doing his most important work,…telling others about Jesus! It all began in his childhood years when his loving and faithful mother would escort him to the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ where his faith was girded up in the knowledge of a risen Lord, and the promises of God were made real,…all because she cared. The years would pass and "boys will be boys,"…yet the truths of the gospel remained and the Holy Spirit lit a fire in Kenneth's heart, over 20 years ago, which opened him up to God's calling on his life,…to take the Word to a hurting world and reach others for Christ. Kenneth was a devout Christian who was determined to share his testimony about how God transformed his life into something very beautiful. He loved to teach about life and how to stay focused on Jesus, and he touched a multitude of hearts and souls in his journey this side of Heaven.Kenneth was also known for his skills in cooking and thoroughly enjoyed preparing meals for his family and friends. Though many of his culinary masterpieces were those prepared on the BBQ, there was no mistaking his extraordinary talents in the kitchen as well,…with some of the best work being his incredible Lasagna, that mouth-watering Chili that everyone loved, or his ever-popular Sloppy Joe's. Whatever Kenneth made was destined to be pleasing to the palate, yummy to the tummy, and easily memorable. If you left his table hungry, you simply weren't trying!Yet the sincerest trait which Kenneth will forever be remembered lies in the devotion he held for his family. He was truly a "family man" who loved sharing those treasured moments in the park,…and cherished each visit with his precious grandchildren. They were the light of his life and brought him countless hours of joy. The Bible says…"unless we come unto Him as little children, we shall not inherit the Kingdom of God,"…and Kenneth would have been the first to admit that his grandchildren were, truly, his mini-mentors to that fact.A loving husband, father and grandfather, Kenneth leaves a legacy of love that will forever be honored and cherished, and a storehouse of memories that will be embraced with each reflection shared. Though his absence may seem a bit premature, our comfort and solace is taken in knowing that he rests, safe, in the arms of God,…and his pain is no more. Go Rest High, Dear Brother.Kenneth was the beloved son of Delilah, the late Willie Brooks, and husband of Robbin Brooks. Dearest father of Eric Martin, Erica (LeVar) Ragland, Kenneth Brooks Jr., Marsha Brooks, Clinton Brooks, Joshua Austin, Crystal (Nabeeh) Seifuddin, Samantha Hamilton, Jomell Peterson, Realie (Rapheal) Irvin, Mattie Peterson, Racheal Brooks, and step-father of Aiyana Scott and Bianca Gabriel (Ty). Loving grandfather of Ciara Malone, Aaron Brooks, Allen Brooks, DeAndre Brooks, Andrea Brooks, Maya Hunko, LaRaye Hamilton, Dennis Hunko, Daniel Hunko, Jamico Hamilton, JaLeon Hamilton, Scarlett Irvin, Kaylah Austin, Rapheal Irvin Jr., Mya Gabriel, Blake Gabriel and Kenneth Horace Brooks III. Cherished brother of Beverly Wright, Patricia Brooks, Melvin Brooks, and the late Lawrence Brooks. Kenneth will lie in state Monday, March 23rd from 10:30am until time of the Funeral Service at 11:30am at Grace Christian Church, 33801 Van Dyke Avenue, Sterling Heights, MI 48312. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.Memorial donations are appreciated to the family.
