Leona Lisoski was the beloved wife of the late Edward Lisoski, with whom she shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. She was the loving mother of Charlene (Alan) Williamson and Dennis Lisoski. Leona was the cherished sister of the late Joseph (the late Agnes) Kutyla and the dear sister-in-law of the late Irene Tanski, the late Thaddius Lisoski, and the late Janet Paczkowski. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
Leona lived a life centered on faith, family, community, and friendship. For more than 40 years, she was a devoted member of the Active Christian Women's Club at St. Martin de Porres in Warren, having been a member since its founding. She shared lasting friendships with the women of the club, whom she affectionately considered her sisters. Proud of her Polish heritage, Leona was a longtime member of the American-Polish Century Club and its Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the Warren Polka Boosters, Red Hat Society, and the Warren Senior Connection. She and Edward enthusiastically embraced their Polish traditions, and many of their favorite activities revolved around celebrating their culture. Leona was actively involved in her community, volunteering alongside her husband on campaigns for local politicians throughout Macomb County. She believed in giving back and found joy in serving others.
Known for her vibrant spirit and boundless energy, Leona loved to dance. She tap danced well into her late 70s and, together with Edward, enjoyed ballroom dancing and polkas. Their talent and enthusiasm even earned them victories in two polka dance contests. Leona never met a stranger. She had an infectious zest for life, a warm smile, and a gift for making people feel welcome. During her time at Windemere Park Senior Community, she became a beloved resident. Alongside her dear friend Helen and her cousin Irene, the trio affectionately became known as the "Golden Girls." Whether she was playing cards, where her competitive spirit always shined, or participating in games and activities, she brought laughter, friendship, and joy to fellow residents and staff alike.
Family was the heart of Leona's life. She delighted in bringing everyone together, organizing countless family parties, celebrations, and holiday gatherings that created cherished memories for generations. Leona also took great pride in her appearance. A true fashionista, she was always impeccably dressed, with coordinated outfits, beautiful accessories, matching jewelry, and perfectly styled hair. She believed every occasion was worth looking her best.
In her younger years, Leona began her career as an elevator operator in an office building in Detroit. Adventurous by nature, she later moved to California with her lifelong friend Helen, where they lived and worked before she returned to Michigan. She enjoyed a long career at Sears in Troy, where she retired as the supervisor of the cash office. She married the love of her life, Edward, in 1949, beginning a marriage filled with love, laughter, dancing, and devotion.
Leona's legacy is one of unwavering faith, deep love for her family, enduring friendships, community service, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered always.
