

Leona Jane Van Maele, age 84 and a resident of Warren her entire life died Monday November 27, 2017 at her home. Leona was born April 20, 1933 in Center Line, Michigan the daughter of the late Raymond Grobbel and the late Florence (nee: Kutchey) Grobbel.Leona was raised on the family farm on Grobbel Street and 11 Mile Road in Warren. She attended and graduated from St. Clement Catholic High School in Center Line, the graduating class of 1951. Following high school she delivered the Detroit News and later worked for the court in Mount Clemens. However Leona eventually met a local boy by the name of Frank Van Maele, which began a love affair and eventual marriage. Leona would become a wonderful "stay at home" Mom devoted to her husband and five sons.Frank and Leona built a new home in Warren in 1959 on Palm Beach Street to raise their family. The young family became active and devoted parishioners of St. Sylvester Catholic Church. the church became a foundation of many close friends over the years for Leona. She was a member of the Ladies Guild for over 35 years and also volunteered for many of the church functions including the bake sales, festivals, and funeral luncheons.Over the years Leona enjoyed her hobbies including, oil painting, baking and cooking for her family, and playing the organ. In her younger years she enjoyed card playing with her friends, bowling, and golfing... just for the social interaction not for the sport. Some of her favorite times were spent entertaining the family at her home during the holidays.Leona was the beloved wife of the late Frank Van Maele, and dearest mother of David (Dee) Van Maele, Mark (Mary) Van Maele, Bill (Renee) Van Maele, Rick (Tamara) Van Maele, and Lester (Melissa) Van Maele. She was the cherished grandmother of Ashley (Nicholas) Crocker, Franklin Van Maele, Kelsey (Michael) Scarchilli, Danielle Van Maele, Kellie Van Maele, Russell Van Maele, Nicholas Van Maele, Hunter Van Maele, Cooper Van Maele, Steven Van Maele, Timothy Van Maele, Ericka Van Maele, Lauren Bradfield, Logan Bradfield, Connor Bradfield, Kelsey "Grace" Bradfield, Claire Van Maele, and Tanner Van Maele. Dear sister of Lucille Carter, Anna (Donald) Jardine, James (Shirley) Grobbel, Jeanette Gietzen, Dick (Marlene) Grobbel, Jerry (Lynn) Grobbel, Bill (Jill) Grobbel, Ken (Sandy) Grobbel, and Dennis (Pam) Grobbel. Mrs. Van Maele is also survived by many loving family members and friends.Visitation for Mrs. Van Maele will be held Thursday from 3-9pm with a 6:30pm Rosary Service at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. Mrs. Van Maele will lie in state Friday 10am at St. Faustina Catholic Church, (formerly St. Edmund), until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30am. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Reverend Fr.
