Leonard was born and raised in the Detroit area, where he left an incredible mark through his life’s journey. His dedication to service was evident from an early age when he joined the Navy in 1962, proudly serving his country until 1968, during the tense days of the Cuban Missile Crisis. His commitment to duty was a testament to his character. After his service, Leonard worked as a journeyman mechanic for Giddings and Louis, where he honed his skills and made valuable contributions. He retired over 15 years ago, leaving behind a legacy of expertise and hard work.
Beyond his professional life, Leonard was a true outdoorsman. He had a passion for fishing, carpentry, and hunting, and he excelled as an expert sharpshooter and gun enthusiast. He proudly won numerous shooting competitions throughout the years, demonstrating his dedication to his hobbies.
Leonard was an integral part of his community and neighborhood, known for his kindness and generosity. He could often be found sitting outside, offering water to anyone in need and lending a helping hand. Leonard was the go-to person for fixing things and helping everyone, embodying the spirit of community and selflessness.
Above all else, Leonard cherished his role as the anchor of his family. He loved his grandchildren more than anything in the world and was always there to provide guidance, support, and unconditional love for them and his daughters Doreen and ‘Squeek’. He had a warm and welcoming smile for everyone he met and would let you know he was doing “Marvelous”. Leonard leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In the wise words of Leonard, if he asked if you were behaving yourself, “Well then you’re not having any fun!”
