Born in Detroit to the late Vangeli and Ruth Papastergion, Linda was known for her giving spirit and warm heart. She was the kind of person who never hesitated to help — always saying, “I gotcha” — and she meant it every time. Linda truly had a heart of gold and was the glue that held her family together.
She had a gift for making people feel seen, loved, and heard. She would talk on the phone for hours, genuinely interested in what was going on in others’ lives, always available to take a call at any time of day. The holidays were especially meaningful to Linda. She poured her heart into each one decorating and gifting in ways that made every family member feel special. She had a knack for knowing exactly what everyone liked, and her gifts would often last people until the next holiday came around. Her holiday gatherings were heartfelt experiences built around joy and togetherness.
She loved the simple moments most watching NASCAR (cheering on Jeff Gordon and Kyle Larson) or catching a Red Wings game with her family. Her home was always open, and her life was deeply interwoven with her siblings. Her and her husband Michael used to joke that her family “moved in with her,” when they married but the closeness they shared as a family was something they all treasured. Even as her health declined, Linda never slowed down. She met every challenge with determination continuing to care for her home and loved ones. She was the true matriarch of her family and she will be deeply missed.
Beloved wife of Michael for 15 years. Dear sister of Michael (Cherri) Papastergion, Christine (the late Dana) Rekar, and the late Gregory Papastergion. Beloved “Second Mom” to Richard Grunow, Kyle (Shasta) Grunow, and Rebekah (Josh) Rekar. Devoted grandma to Kylina Grunow, Liana Grunow, David Johnson, and Juniper Grunow. Loving aunt of Michael, Cassandra, Athena, Angelica, Gergory, Ivana, Anastasia. Also survived by many great-nieces and one great-nephew.
