On October 4, 2026, our beloved family matriarch, Linda Schmelter, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Linda Schmelter was born on July 29, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Dennis and Margaret Mallon.
Linda was the beloved wife of the late Robert Schmelter and the late Charles Schmelter. She was a loving mother to Margaret (Eddie Hakim) Schmelter, Steven Schmelter, James (Jessica) Schmelter, and the late Robert Schmelter II and Charles Schmelter. She was a cherished grandmother to Shannon (Keegan), Patrick (Eve), Samantha (Rico), Catrina (Brian), Charles III, Bo (Jasmine), Nicholas, and Emily. Linda was also a proud great-grandmother to Liam, Judah, Preston, Autumn, Tanner, and Cameron. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, as well as her beloved husbands and sons.
She was the last of her generation and a wonderful representative of the generation she came from. She was a peacekeeper, an enforcer, a connector, and a judgment-free ear for anyone who simply needed someone to listen.
She was the first call you made when you got into trouble. No matter what the situation was, you knew you could call her. She would listen without judgment, help you figure out what to do next, and somehow make even the biggest problem feel a little more manageable.
She had a way of bringing people together, settling disagreements, connecting people, and helping those around her find their way. She touched countless lives throughout her lifetime, often simply by being there when someone needed her.
Her strength, loyalty, compassion, and unwavering willingness to help others will be remembered by everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
She wasn't just our family matriarch. She was our safe place, our voice of reason, our connection to the generations before us, and the person so many people knew they could count on.
You spent your life being there for everyone else. Now it is our turn to carry you with us. Your voice, your lessons, your strength, your love, and the mark you left on so many lives will never be forgotten. You were our first call when we were in trouble, and now, even though we can't call you anymore, we will carry your wisdom with us every day.
Rest peacefully knowing that you were deeply loved, endlessly needed, and unforgettable. Your work here is done. We will take it from here. Until we meet again, we love you, and we will miss you forever.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, from 4:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 pm, at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Road, in Warren.
