Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, while celebrating her 84th birthday on November 6, 2025. Lorraine was born in Hamtramck, Michigan, to her late parents Adelaide Sliter and Frank (Sophie) Sliter.
She was the beloved wife for 54 wonderful years to the late Kenneth Bania. Loving mother of Karen Bania, Shelly Bania, and Scott (Kelly) Bania. Cherished grandmother of Melissa, Gabby, Benjamin, Kate, and Emily. Dear sister of Arnold (Lisa) Sliter; sister-in-law of Gerald (Laurie) Bania, and the late Thomas and Dennis Bania. She leaves behind many other loving family members and friends.
In the mid-1960s, Lorraine met the love of her life, Kenneth, on the dance floor. Shortly after, they married and went on to share 54 glorious years together. They loved to travel and especially enjoyed spending time in northern Michigan. One of Lorraine’s fondest trips was to Hawaii for her 60th birthday, where she celebrated by taking a solo helicopter ride, while Ken remained on land.
Lorraine was a devoted choir member for both St. Jude Church in Detroit and St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. She and Kenneth were proud members of St. Margaret for over 30 years, where they joyfully served their parish community, particularly during Lent at the beloved fish frys. Lorraine was also an active member of the Women’s Club and could often be found supporting the church’s basketball games or lending a helping hand wherever one was needed.
Beyond dancing, her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved family.
Lorraine will always be remembered for her spicy spirit and strong-willed personality.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 21201 E. 13 Mile Rd., St. Clair Shores, MI 48082. Instate begins at 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
