Lucille L. Palko, age 94, passed away peacefully at home in Warren on Friday, October 16, 2026. She was born on January 24, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to the late Giacomo Aleo and Nancy (nee Olivieri) Aleo.
Lucille will be remembered for her warmth, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she was immensely proud of the family she helped shape through her love, wisdom, and behind-the-scenes guidance.
A graduate of Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre, Lucille began working alongside her mother as a seamstress in a dress factory. She also worked briefly at a parachute company, a story she loved to share with her daughters. Lucille was never one to stay quiet if she saw something being done incorrectly, and she would tell the other women how to sew properly. Her daughters always laughed at the story, knowing their mother was never afraid to speak her mind!
On March 26, 1951, Lucille married the love of her life, Bernard “Bernie” Palko. Together, they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2014.
While Bernie worked, Lucille devoted herself to raising her daughters and later became an irreplaceable presence in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in watching each of them grow and knew that her quiet guidance had helped shape the people they became. She was the kind of grandmother who would even take her grandchildren out driving to practice, perhaps knowing Bernie might not have approved! When Bernie retired, Lucille jokingly remarked, “Well, there goes all my fun.”
Lucille shared a special bond with each of her daughters, who considered their mother not only a parent but also their best friend. She was always ready to listen, offer support, and provide comfort without judgment. The connection they shared was truly one of a kind, built on a lifetime of love, laughter, and treasured memories.
In her quieter moments, Lucille enjoyed word search puzzles, gardening, and embroidery. Above all, she treasured time with her family and took immense pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the center of her world.
Lucille was the beloved wife of the late Bernard “Bernie” Palko; loving mother of Nancy (Harley) Nichols, Donna Palko, and Justina Palko; cherished grandmother of Amanda (Ryan) Neuhalfen and Andrew (Candace) Nichols; and adored great-grandmother of Noah and Olivia Neuhalfen. She was the dear cousin, whom she considered a sister, of Antoinette Galle, and sister-in-law of Barbara Aleo. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, along with her grand-doggies, Gunner and Gauge, who brought joy to her life.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Natalie Aleo, Joan (Ed) Roberts, Geraldine (Joe) Andrzejewski, and Vincent Aleo.
Lucille leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her love, laughter, wisdom, and the countless ways she made each of them feel special. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured and the unbreakable bonds she created. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
