Margaret A. Hackel, age 91, died Friday, May 22, 2015 at her home in Warren, Michigan. Margaret was born July 18, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan and called the Detroit and Warren areas home her entire life. Margaret was raised and educated in Detroit and later married William Hackel on November 9, 1940. The two celebrated 60 years of marriage before William's death in 2001. During their 60 years together, the couple never owned more than one car at a time, yet both worked full time and managed to juggle the transportation schedule just fine. Margaret was employed for 30 years as a secretary for the United States Postal Service, and William had 34 years under his belt with the Van Dyke Public School System. From 1972 through 1989, William and Margaret owned a cottage up north on Lake Ogemaw where they hosted many great family get-togethers,...some treasured times that the children and grandchildren remember fondly. Additionally, Mrs. Hackel was a HUGE sports fan. She loved watching all the "Sports in the D," however the Red Wings and Tigers were her favorites. Ironically, her favorite sport to watch on television was golf, even though she never played the game. She was the Encyclopedia Brittanica when it came to all things PGA. Margaret could tell you how much each player made, who they were married to, and their ranking in the world standings. When she was not watching sports, her other television favorite was Wheel of Fortune. Quite often, Margaret was yelling out the answer to the puzzle before anyone else was even able to focus on the letters.Mrs. Hackel devoted her life to her family and was always quick to let them know her true feelings. She was also quite devout when it came to sending greeting cards. Throughout the many occasions and events over the years, Margaret made sure that everyone in the family was acknoweledged with a Hallmark card. Many have quipped that Mrs. Hackel supported Hallmark's bottom line so fervently with her purchases that the future of the company may now be in question. And not merely at the card store,...Margaret was a gifted shopper in general. She took shopping to a whole new level and, easily, put professional shoppers to shame. Yet in the end, it was all about family. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Margaret gave the best of herself this side of Heaven and leaves behind a storehouse of wonderful memories for all to embrace who were blessed to know her. She touched a multitude of hearts and lives along the way and will be missed immensely. May she now rest in peace, safely in the arms of God. Mrs. Hackel was the beloved wife of the late William, and the loving mother of William Jr. "Bill" (Ada) Hackel, and Linda (Jerome) MacDonald. She is the dear sister of Elizabeth Baril, and the cherished grandmother of William III (Sara) Hackel, Mark (Tracie) Hackel, Gregory (Lynda) Hackel, Ken (Karen) Hackel, Sue, and the late Curtis. Mrs. Hackel is further survived by 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. Visitation for Mrs. Hackel will be held Tuesday, May 26th from 2-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road) in Warren. Her Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, 11:30 am at the Funeral Home.
