At the age of seven, Mario immigrated with his family from Italy to Hamtramck, Michigan, where he was raised and spent most of his life. A true hard worker, Mario was a self-employed carpet layer for many years, taking great pride in his work and providing for his family. Later in his working years, he joined the team at Home Depot, where he worked for more than 15 years before retiring.
On April 20, 1972, Mario married the love of his life, Sharon. Together, they built a beautiful life and happy home, raising their children, Lisa and Mario. In 2002, Mario and Sharon moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they continued their life together and made many wonderful memories.
Mario enjoyed many things in life, including playing the guitar, traveling, fishing, bowling, and playing cards with his family. He was a very competitive person and spent much of his life trying to win the big lottery, always hoping that his lucky numbers would finally come through.
Mario was a man of few words and never liked being the center of attention. However, he always seemed to know just the right moment to chime in with a joke or a funny comment that would make everyone laugh. His quiet nature and wonderful sense of humor were simply part of who he was, and those moments of laughter will be cherished by his family and friends.
Above all, Mario cherished his family. He adored his children and grandchildren, but his greatest love was his sweetheart, Sharon. The love and devotion they shared throughout their marriage was truly special and served as an example of what a loving partnership could be—not only for their children, but for their grandchildren as well.
Mario will be remembered for his hardworking nature, quiet spirit, competitive nature, sense of humor, and, most importantly, the love he had for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Mario was the beloved husband of Sharon. Dear father of Lisa (Endri) Laska and Mario Merola. Devoted Poppa of Veronica Szpytek, Angelo Merola, Sofia Shields, Austin Shields, and Victoria Laska. Brother of Antonia Merola, John (Diane) Merola, and the late Frank Merola. Brother-in-law of Denise Deal and the late Richard Deal. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as his dear friends Alexander and Kathleen Sowinski, Rosie Nadwodny, and the late Dennis McQueen.
