With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Marion for his service to our country during the Vietnam War era. As a sailor in the U.S. Navy, his duty assignment was that as Radio Operator while serving aboard the iconic aircraft carrier, the USS John F. Kennedy. With almost 3 years of foreign and sea duty, to complement his time served stateside, Marion proudly stepped up on February 24, 1967 to join his fellow mates and ultimately accepted his honorable discharge on December 8, 1970. For the sacrifices made and his willingness to stand in harm’s way for the cause of freedom, we honor Marion’s service and extend our posthumous gratitude for answering his inward, patriotic call.
Upon returning home, Marion would eventually find employment with the automotive giant, the General Motors Corporation where he worked as a laborer and was just one of the many who helped make Detroit the Motor Capital of the world. When he wasn’t working, Marion enjoyed a host of activities and pastimes that made his time off quite fulfilling. If he was seeking a bit of solace and simply wanted to chill with some great music, Marion would almost always choose the genre of Classical to soothe his soul. If he was looking to stretch and challenge his mind, that meant it was time to reach for the crossword puzzle and give it a whirl. For something a little more constructive and noteworthy, Marion found great enjoyment by putting his skills in woodworking to the test. Possessing the talents of an artist and quite the creative eye, Marion could take a simple piece of wood and sculpt it into a work of art, worthy of taking its rightful place in any art gallery.
When the occasion for a little “tube time” presented itself, two of Marion’s favorite picks were the old westerns, especially the ones that highlighted John Wayne,…and, definitely, his love for “Sports in the D!” From our favorite Boys of Summer in their Blue & Orange, the Detroit Tigers,...the dudes in Silver & Honolulu Blue, our Detroit Lions (God bless his faithfulness),…to our stick masters in Red & White, the Detroit Red Wings,…there was no greater fan and supporter than Marion, and he would always sing their praises. They may not always be winners, but there’s certainly no question that our Sports in the D make us stand proudly through the generational legacy the teams have built over the years. It’s so much more than any one game,…and Marion knew it well.
Marion will also be remembered for his kind heart, his giving spirit, and his selfless nature that touched the lives of so many. Yes, he was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back if he saw a need, and was always willing to give a hand when asked. To say he was a “helper” just seems to fall so short in describing the unselfish man he was to all. A loving husband, father brother and uncle, Marion leaves behind a warm and wonderful legacy of love, and a host of loved ones and friends that are sure to treasure the memories they created with Marion,…memories that will keep him close. Though it is sad to see him go, just imagine the joyful reunion he is experiencing now with his beloved Bridget?! Happy though that thought is,…still, he will be missed immensely and loved eternally.
Marion was the beloved husband of the late Bridget. Loving father of David Faber, and the late Steven Faber. Dear brother of John Faber, Eleonore (Daniel) Franczak, and Joseph (the late Ruth) Faber. Cherished uncle of Andrew, Cheryl, and great-uncle to Greyson and Kaia.
Visitation for Marion will be held Thursday, September 9th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, with a 1:00 pm Funeral Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.
Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan 48038.
