Marjorie Ann Matthews "Marge" (nee: Marley), age 79 of Warren, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Autumn Woods Health Care Facility in Warren, Michigan. She was born February 24, 1936 in Detroit, daughter of the late Roy and the late Lydia (nee: Fischer) Marley. If a book were ever written about Marge and her life's journey, the first sentence of chapter #1 would begin something like, "She loved her family immeasurably and found her greatest joys in the times they shared together." (Insert "Amen" here.) Of course, those times were different with respect to the ages involved, but they were always filled with fun and warm memories. With the older bunch, it was often the trips up north and the contentment of being immersed in Michigan's wildlife that caught her fancy. Escaping the concrete jungle for a taste of the Mitten's backwoods countryside provided Marge a plethora of scenic delights that she held close to her heart and mind,…as well as wonderful memories of who she shared them with over the years. And there was no keeping her away from the "boats & beaches." Whether on the water enjoying the fun and exhilaration of boating, or simply layin' back on the warm and inviting sand people-watching,…Marge was a living testament to what puts the "great" in the Great Lakes State. When it came time to being with her younger cherubs, the memories of Disney World always reigned supreme. Affectionately known for being the kingdom where we all are kids, she never felt more "alive" than when she was experiencing the "greatest place on earth" with her dearest & only grandson, as well as her many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Another precious memory she clung to was when she and the kids rolled up their sleeves, rolled out the dough, and baked 'em up a batch of the finest cookies in town. Marge worked some intense magic in her kitchen over the years, but nothing was as special as the cookies she produced with the kids. Got milk?Reflecting on the "Cookie Crew," a natural progression would be the holidays, and all she did to make them special for everybody. Marge was a "gift-giver-extraordinaire" and always managed to get just the perfect gift with each person in mind. Nobody was left out, and her accountability skills were incredible in keeping it all together. Hopping back on that fun train, another of Marge's favorite pastimes was sitting around the table, with family and friends alike, enjoying a rousing game of cards. It really didn't matter if it was Euchre, Cribbage, Double Pinochle, or any other familiar game,…she loved them all. Even though there was welcomed entertainment in the mix, it was really more about creating the moments with loved ones that would be treasured for a lifetime. Yet when it came to her ultimate source of entertainment pleasures, nothing could match the tingling in her bones for her favorite Boys of Summer, the Detroit Tigers. There was no greater fan nor avid supporter than that of Marge Matthews. Though she loved and kept up with all the sports in the "D"…there was just something about her boys and their big bats that got her machine hummin'.Speaking of humming,…that's a perfect segue to another of Marge's memorable traits, her proclivity towards singing and whistling. As she walked through life, she could have easily been mistaken for one of Snow White's little friends,…singing & whistling her way through the day. Yet, it was more than merely singing a happy tune. Marge possessed a natural happiness and genuine optimism that permeated through her, and emanated out of her, in a very unique way that touched the hearts and souls of so many that shared her path. She had a "heart of gold' and was the kind of person who would do anything for anybody. For this little girl who grew up in Center Line, adulthood and marriage eventually lead her and her family to the bedroom community of Warren where she would end up spending the majority of her life. And though she fought some battles with her health in the end, she was never more strong and vibrant than when she reminisced about family & friends, and the storehouse of memories they coveted together. Marge leaves a legacy of love for all to draw from who were blessed to know her. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Marge was the dearest mother of Laura Kazmierczak and Roy (Stephanie) Matthews, and the loving grandmother of Jason Kazmierczak. Visitation for Marge will be held Saturday, April 11th from 3-9 pm, with a 7 pm Funeral Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren.
