Marvin J. Grieshaber, age 82 of Sterling Heights, died Thursday, May 8, 2014 at home in the company of his loved ones. He was born July 13, 1931 in Detroit, son of the late Marvin and the late Margaret (nee: Lynch) Grieshaber. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Mr. Grieshaber for his service to our country during the Korean War. As an airman in the U.S. Air Force, he wore the uniform with pride and served with the utmost in bravery and patriotism. For the call to duty he so proudly answered, we honor the sacrifices he made by standing in harm's way on our behalf, and for the cause of freedom and liberty to all. One of the most profound ways to describe Marv would definitely be that of "loyal." The first and most endearing evidence would have to be the 58 wonderful years spent with his bride, Alice. Like many young couples, pie-eyed and full of wonder as they share their vows and begin their life's journey together, Marv & Alice's road was just as unknown and ready to be traveled. With love as their stronghold and faith as their guide, the 58 years they shared were replete with the joys of building a home, raising a family, and growing deeper in love with each passing day.Another "loyal" milestone would be the 42 years he spent with the Chrysler Motors Corporation in the Production Control Department. Following a history of dedicated service and strong work ethics, Marv entered the realm of the retired with confidence in a job well-done. But that was merely with Chrysler. Aside from his main employment, he managed to obtain licenses in both the insurance and real estate fields as well. Not happy with just sitting around during the automotive down times, Marv put his mind to work and his gut instincts into play by creating a couple avenues to earn some extra cash. Even after his retirement, he still kept busy with real estate and helped many families along the way.Marv's loyalty was also a benchmark he shared with a group of buddies from his school days at St. Joseph's in Detroit, the "Non-Nominees"…a latin term meaning No Names. Together they formed a bond that, unbeknownst to them, would last throughout their lives,…even unto the present. We all form friendships in our younger years, but how many last a lifetime? Well, Marv was one of the lucky ones who enjoyed a special, fraternal brotherhood with these (boys) men that not only stood the test of time, but included a storehouse of treasured moments and memories shared over vacations together, as well as the many holiday and party events that reunited them regularly. And none would question his loyalty to sports, especially when it came to the prestigious U of M. A good TV, a comfy armchair, and some Wolverine action always meant for a great time. Other sporting pleasures included fishing and golfing, both of which he enjoyed participating in over the years. Between the serenity and peacefulness of an ol' fishin' hole, and the challenge of taming the holes of a favorite (or noted) golf course, Marv knew how to infuse some balance into life by trading work for something fun.Together, Marv & Alice found great enjoyment in traveling. Not merely content with the contiguous 48, their ventures took them to many scenic and noteworthy places around the world. They were truly globetrotters who managed to amass quite the number of stories from their storied trips to different cultures. And as for different cultures, their later years together found them exchanging the wintry mix in the Mitten for the sunshine and warmth of Florida. Yes, they joined the ranks of the Snowbird Squadron and flocked to the quaint community of Marco Island where they enjoyed 3 glorious months of the year reminiscing about the snow they USED to shovel. Marv will also be remembered for being a gracious and welcoming host, a man who loved to entertain. Seeing people have a great time meant the world to him, and joining in on that fun made it even more special. Yet for as much fun as poured from his humanity, so did the evidence of his faith. Marv was a Godly man who truly cared for the souls around him, and led by example when it came to fighting the good fight of faith. In his own way, and with his own style, he shared the goodness of God and touched a multitude of lives in his journey through life. A founding member and longtime parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren, many will remember Marv as that handsome & friendly man who ushered them to their seat for Mass. However he is remembered, it's sure to be for something good, perhaps something fun,…and definitely with gratitude for the loyalty and steadfastness that was the cornerstone of each relationship he shared. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Marv was not only a great provider for his family, but their rock as well. He was an especially doting grandfather who was also respected for the distinction of mentor and role model that he played in their lives. Marv leaves behind a legacy of love that will be reflected upon, always, with honor & reverence. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Mr. Grieshaber was the beloved husband of Alice (nee: Savage). Dear father of Julie (Daniel) Temrowski, Daniel (Jayne), and Gary (Connie) Grieshaber.
