Mary was raised in Detroit, where she attended Catholic school before moving to Warren and graduating from Cousino High School. In her younger years, she shared her love of music by playing violin with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She later earned her business degree from Macomb Community College, a reflection of her strong work ethic and determination.
Mary was an incredibly hardworking woman with an entrepreneurial spirit. She proudly started her own cab company and printing business before going on to own two well-known restaurants: Mary’s Place at 10 Mile and Van Dyke, and Annie’s at 13 Mile and Hayes. Through every chapter of her life, she poured her heart into everything she did.
She was married to her beloved husband, Joe, for 14 wonderful years until his passing in 2015. Mary found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved cooking, tending to her many plants and flowers, crocheting, and listening to all kinds of music — with the exception of country music. She treasured camping trips with her children and created special memories raising angelfish with her granddaughter. She also dearly loved her dogs, Sarah and Sasha.
Above all else, Mary loved her family. Her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She will be deeply missed by her beloved family and friends.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Joseph. Loving mother of James (Michelle) Wilbur and Jeannene (Jason) Boyke. Cherished grandmother of Kandace, Alyssa (Hunter), Aleister, Dylan, and Justin. Adored great-grandmother of Theo. Dear sister of Elizabeth (James) and Anne. Special fur-mom to her beloved dogs Sarah and Sasha. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack & Betty Hammond and brother John Hammond.
A Celebration of Life for Mary will be held on Saturday, May 30th from 11am-12pm with a Service beginning at 12pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren.
