Mary York, beloved daughter of the late Bernadette and James York, was born on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1960. She was a loving sister to Bernadette (the late Terry) Carrothers and the late Annamarie (the late Paul) Barnes. Mary was a cherished aunt to Annamarie (Mario) Macandog and Amber King (Anthony Dinnino), and a caring great-aunt to Zoey Macandog, Isabella King, and Fiona Macandog. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Piper.
Mary dedicated over a decade of her career to Molina Healthcare of Michigan, where she valued the teams she worked with over the course of her tenure. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures watching movies of all genres with her family and shopping as the family’s self-proclaimed “ultimate browser,” often searching for hours before finding just the right item.
She proudly carried on family traditions in cooking and baking, preserving her grandmother’s cherished recipes while adding her own modern touches. Her meatloaf was a family favorite, but her Christmas cookies were legendary. Christmas was always spent at her sister Bernadette’s home. Though often just the two of them celebrating together, Mary cooked enough to feed a village, ensuring there were days of comforting leftovers to follow.
Mary shared a particularly close bond with her parents, especially her mother. Together they shared a deep love for the Capuchin Monastery and its mission of serving others. One of the most treasured memories she shared with her sister was attending the Full Mass of Beatification for Blessed Solanus Casey at Ford Field in November 2017. The event reflected both her faith and her devotion to a cause her mother deeply supported. Supporting the Capuchins and helping others was close to Mary’s heart.
For those wishing to express sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Joseph in Mary’s honor.
