Michael Merle Gaetzke, age 73, passed away on October 23, 2026. Born on May 7, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, to Richard and Verna Gaetzke, Michael will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his love of family, and his ability to strike up a conversation with just about anyone.
Michael was the beloved husband of the late Betsy Jayne Gaetzke. They married in May of 1986 and shared more than 30 wonderful years together, building a life filled with love, memories, and family. He was a loving father to Krystal (Joseph) Gaetzke-Bemben and Michael Gaetzke, and a proud grandfather to Liliana Craig, who brought him great joy. Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, and his siblings Judith Brandon, Cathy Rogers, Richard Gaetzke, Brad Gaetzke, and Shauna Waterman.
A natural jokester, he loved to make people laugh and could talk with anyone he met. He cherished his family above all else and was always protective of those he loved. One thing he would always say was, “I love my family,” a simple but meaningful expression of what mattered most to him.
A devoted Detroit Red Wings fan, Michael loved hockey and never wanted to miss a game. His love for the sport went beyond watching; he enjoyed playing hockey in the front yard with his son, creating special memories that would last a lifetime. He also enjoyed visiting the horse races in Hazel Park with his family, riding his bike, and walking around the neighborhood to enjoy the outdoors.
Michael had a deep love for music, especially classic rock. He enjoyed listening to loud music, with Van Halen among his favorites. Some of his happiest moments were spent singing and playing music with his granddaughter, Liliana. He also enjoyed collecting things and took pride in his extensive pen collection, reflecting his appreciation for the little things that made life interesting.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1, from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm, at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Road, in Warren.
